This is a Logis de France (Characterful and Quiet), situated in a picturesque walled village dating from Louis XIV where the cloth for the French army used to be manufactured. Alongside the river, it is in a very pretty setting.
We had booked a room in the morning by telephone and when we arrived the hotel owner was charming and showed us a choice of rooms he had available. We chose the "Royal" which happened to be the most expensive at 80 Euros, but was huge with a king size bed plus two single beds, so ideal for a family. The bathroom was spotless. The grounds are lovely and include a swimming pool (which we didn't use as it was late September and just a bit too cool). In the height of summer, dinner is served under a wisteria-topped terrace. However we ate inside the restaurant "Salle Colbert" with its vaulted ceiling and had an excellent meal with very pleasant, welcoming staff (as were the hotel owners). Breakfast is in a lovely little room alongside the river. I imagine that in the summer this would be an ideal place for a family to stay - playground for children and sandpit.
A great little hotel of 14 rooms, good value for money and very welcoming.
