On a 100 mile bike ride and took a stop for a much needed calorie intake. We both had the sticky treacle pudding which was excellent.

Had a great evening meal here. The food is home cooked quality food. Served in pleasant olde world village pub by attentive pleasant staff.
We were fed well and well looked after - what more could you want?
A small criticism - fresh veg would be nicer rather than garden peas, not difficult to do but makes such a difference. Still, the meal we had was excellent (garden peas included)!

The Welby Arms is in a prime position facing the village green at Allington and as such is a mainstay of village events taking place on or around the green. This excellent venue continues to supply superb 'pub grub' coupled with good wines and ales, in fact there is usually a reasonable choice of guest ales along with the well known standards. The service is great and with a traditional English pub atmosphere where all are welcome, it can only continue to progress from strength to strength. You really must try it and I'm sure that you'll return quite often. Be careful who tell about this open secret as you find that it may become too popular!

My fiancée and I recently had a lunchtime meal at the Welby Arms. It was a warm welcoming atmosphere, and after ordering a drink, we were given a menu and sat in what could best be described as a 'traditionally English pub bar', whilst we perused the menu. One unique feature, was the fact that children or those with a smaller appetite could have virtually any of the meals, but in a smaller portion and pay almost half the price. It made a refreshing change from seeing all burgers, chips and chicken nuggets!! I know my own grandchildren would have been keen to have more choice.
My fiancée ordered the fish which was fresh and sparkling white. She said it tasted as good as it looked. Despite a limited lunchtime staff everything was quick and lived up to a good standard of service(polite and efficient).Having been over a number of years it has never dropped its standards or quality. It is possible to stay overnight, so anyone from coming from afar, should consider this as a very good option. A typical pretty village pub and a good taste of English culture.
