“Restaurant”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Found this by chance when staying at a local hotel. Would definately go again when in the area. Some of the prices were a little over the top but there was still a very good choice if you didn't want an expensive meal. The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful and the service was good. Good to tell the food was cooked to order. W.ould reccomend it

“Homemade food but don’t go on a Monday”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

Booked a table for 5 on a Monday evening and found ourselves squashed on a table for 4 even though the restaurant was only half full. Eventually someone came and took our order and our food was duly served. Mostly the food arrived hot and there was a vegetarian selection which was nice. However a couple of the dishes were obviously reheated from the previous Sunday lunch, my slow cooked pork was dry and the crackling was so hard it was impossible to break into, another diner had roast potatoes which were served in a cold dish. Maybe we just made the wrong choice of dish or maybe it was the wrong day.

“Cosy pub meal”
Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

Enjoyed a good meal in this cosy pub on a weekday lunchtime. It was a cold day and we sat by a roaring fire in the bar, which was extremely comfortable( there is a separate restaurant if you wish). Staff were very friendly and efficient. Meals of chicken in a Brie sauce, and a curry were both good, and chips were home made. Desserts were nothing special, standard pub fare. Would certainly visit again.

“Great pub food!”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

Happened upon this place when staying in a local hotel, and came away thoroughly impressed.

Inside is quite an old fashioned pub with a lovely log fire (on a very cold evening!) service was speedy, efficient and friendly. Atmosphere was a little quiet, but we were eating very early on a Monday night, so I imagine we visited at the quietest time!

Food was great. We had deep fried brie and tomato and veg soup (£5.95/£4.95) followed by pork medallions (£12.95) and a lovely lambs liver special (£11.95). Food was served quickly and was of a very good quality. Generous portions of meat with well cooked potatoes, and some seasonal veg. Lovely rich sauces made the food that bit more special than just a meat-and-two-veg meal you'd get in a lot of pubs.

There is a full restaurant menu, and also a bar menu which looks lovely. Prices are a little higher than a lot of pubs, but the quality was good so no complaints from us. We spent £40, for two starters, two mains, an appletiser and a small wine.

“"Superb"”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Visited this restaurant and had a very enjoyable meal. Staff were very welcoming, pleasant and knowledgeable. Menu was idea with an excellent selection. Not ready immediately but that is a good sign as it is cooked to order. Food was excellent as well and can recommend the Byron potato. Nest of mashed potato with melted cheese in middle. As good as it sounds. In warmer weather there is seating outside in very pleasant surroundings. Plenty of parking space. As far as I know, it has accommodation as well. Slightly expensive but very good value for money.
Will hopefully return.
