we dined here as a party of 3 and intended to have our usual roast which is excellent however we decided to try the Pollock in Doom-bar batter and it exceeded expectations also the mushroom starter with the stilton crumb was to die for so excellent all round will go again soon

We met friends here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. This is an atmospheric, typical old a English style pub/ restaurant with exposed beams and log fire. The menu is high quality and service friendly and welcoming. I would gladly revisit I when next in the area.

We arrived in time for a nice pub lunch - soup and sandwiches plus coffee and tea - I spent the afternoon with my newspaper next to a roaring log fire with a pot of coffe and even enjoyed a little tinkle on the piano in the restaurant area when I thought nobody was about while my husband had to work. Our meal in the evening was excellent. Plenty of choice in the menu and the food was well prepared, presented and tasty. The table service was unobtrusive but friendly and helpful. Our room - no 6 - was very clean and comfortable with the bathroom having shutters on the window for privacy - and lovely soft towels - not all hotel towles are soft. Our breakfast next day was superb and again plenty of choice - it really set us up for the day. The hotel is quite rural but was busy with guest, most of whom I think were on business however there were refulars who popped in for a drink after work.

Room Tip: Our room (no 6) faced the front however, due to the location, it was quiet and peaceful so had a good nights sleep.

This is exactly what I hoped it would be, a lovely country pub with lots of character and friendly staff. The room was great the food was lovely. Excellent location.
This was a anniversary get away that we would recommend.

My husband and I stayed at the Carpenter's Arms for one night in January, as we were shooting nearby on the following day. We followed our GPS from Exmoor to Stanton Wick on a nasty, dark evening and it directed us to the village, but no further. Luckily the lights of the Carpenters were bright and we found it with no trouble. As hotel guests, we parked in the secured parking area to the rear. They also have a large car park across the road.

We checked in at the bar area, which was warm and welcoming with a good mix of clientele, from locals with mud on their boots (almost) to couples out for the night in country finery. We did not have dinner that evening, as we had just had a very late and very large lunch, so just had nuts while enjoying our G&T and excellent beer.

Our room was at the rear of the hotel, overlooking the car park. Reached by a maze-like corridor, but well-lit and signed. The room was very spacious and tastefully decorated, with a king-sized bed and sofa. The wardrobe in the corner had real wooden hangers and a very good tea/coffee set-up. The bed was comfortable, with good quality linens and a warm, but not heavy, duvet. The pillows were also good quality - no lumpy foam or feathers here. Bedside lights on both sides which is very important to us.

The bathroom was large and had a good shower over the bath, with excellent water pressure and adjustable hot water. Heated towel rail held very high quality towels and there was a good selection of quality toiletries.

Breakfast in the morning was in a cosy corner of the dining/bar area and was promptly served as we needed to be on our way. My poached eggs were perfectly cooked and I was told that the haddock as well as the coffee was excellent.

The only minor negative was that my husband was unable to open the car park gate with the key provided when he needed to get to our car before the gates were unlocked at 7:00 a.m. But this was certainly only a slight inconvenience, and did not detract from our overall good experience.

Now we know where we are going, we would not hesitate to stay again at the Carpenter's Arms, and would definitely recommend it.
