Colin and Joyce are terrific hosts and they cater perfectly for walkers and tourists to this special part of England. Mike and I stayed for two nights to complete the Pennine Way. The food was fantastic and the beer was the best I've had! Brilliant mini bus service helps to split the final leg of the Way. Very highly recommended. Colin and Joyce- keep up the good work!

One of the friendliest b&b's we've stayed in. There are no TV's, so the bar is well used and everyone chats. Nice choice of wines and real ale!. Colin and Joyce are the perfect hosts. We used Forest View as a base for 2 nights for visiting Kielder Water and walking in the area. The full english breakfast was excellent and really sets you up for the day, we only needed a midday snack to keep us going until the evening meal. There was a choice of 3 starters, 5 mains and 2 desserts for the evening meal. At £11.50 for all 3 courses it's excellent value. We had a ground floor family room with en-suite shower room. The bedroom was spotless and the linen looked like new. There are no coffee/tea-making facilities in the rooms, but these are available in the conservatory.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback we have taken your point about the tea & coffee trays and these are now supplied in all rooms. We have however left the tray in the conservatory as people do like to make a cuppa while chatting to fellow guests in the Bar and lounge.

The two night dinner, bed & breakfast package with a lift from and to the halfway point on the last stretch of the Pennine Way from Byrness to Kirk Yetholm is the perfect way to finish the walk. This splits what would otherwise be a marathon into two enjoyable days with an easy descent from Windy Gyle to the pick up point at Trows Farm. To add to the unbeatable value of this deal, Colin and Joyce, two very friendy Tynesiders, are great hosts and work very hard to make sure their guest are comfortable and well looked after. We stayed in the Old Post Office, across the green from the Forest View. The accommodation had a bit of 1950s character about it but was very clean and comfortable. Dinner in the small restaurant at the Forest View was excellent and again great value. The well kept beer and the lively chatter in the cosy bar were the perfect way to end a good day's walk. If you're planning on doing this last stretch of the Pennine Way, look no further than the Forest View for somewhere to stay.

Having do the Pennine Way solo in June, I raved about the Forest View and the Cheviot section of the walk to my other half, and decided to re-do the final 27 miles again but this time together, over the August Bank Holiday. Colin and Joyce are simply the best hosts you could image. From the minute you arrive you are made to feel like an honoured guest, if you are wet and muddy, Colin looks after your gear whilst you relax with a hot drink in the conservatory. The rooms are just what you need, clean spacious and comfortable whilst the food, especially for us Veggies is excellent and great value. After acting as a butler for you when you arrive, Colin then acts as waiter during mealtimes and then barman in the evenings, is there no end to the mans talents? Meanwhile Joyce acts as chauffuer, cook, accountant and boiler cleaner, is there nothing this lady cannot do?
All in all a fabulous stay and I would recommend the Forest View to anybody. Oh, and I forgot to mention the beer; three real ales on tap, kept in top form by you-know-who.
Thanks again Colin and Joyce - we will see you again
Tim and Sara

I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else! The food is very good and the menu has more choice than I would have imagined. The beer is simply good honest real ale and all locally brewed. Colin and Joyce are great hosts! They cater for walkers needs, dropping people off halfway for those who want to do the long stage in two parts and also picking people up at the end of the day! The will leave you out an early bird breakfast for those who want to leave at the crack of dawn! The rooms are all clean and tidy. They do their utmost to make your stay as comfortable as possible! Thank You

Stayed here in June on our final leg of the Pennine Way. The accommodation was very nice, Joyce is an ace cook, and Colin served some excellent beer! The added bonus was neighbour Terry and his stories of suicidal chickens. Colin and Joyce even rustled up a birthday scone complete with candle for me to celebrate my 40th on the final day of our journey.

Met a couple of strange characters there - namely Co-op Man and Miss Piggy - but other than that, had an excellent two night stay at Byrness and would recommend to anyone wanting clean and comfy lodgings at a budget price.

Thanks for your kind comments I am sure that co-op man and miss piggy made your Pennine way even more memorable than it would have been. Terry is missing his chats with the walkers and is already looking forward to the spring when a whole new muddy boot brigade start coming through. Joyce

Six of us stayed over the last weekend to complete the Pennine Way and really enjoyed our stay. We used the bus service to Trows, which worked really well and help break the long stage into two enjoyable legs - highly recommended. The rooms, food & especially the draft beer were excellent and Colin & Joyce were very welcoming hosts. Despite some stress when 6 - 10 arrived unannounced, they managed to fit everyone in and welcome all.

The night that you stayed was very busy.It is good news that the origional National Trail is becoming more popular again. In fact I have recently changed the bus to a larger minibus so that more people can split the last section of the Pennine way. We hope to see you again if you are ever passing this way. Joyce
