“Great Sunday lunch”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

Enjoyed a very good Sunday lunch today at the Anglers Arms. It's not difficult to find, being located just of the A-697 and not far from the A-1 Northbound. It serves typical Sunday pub fare, but the services was excellent and very prompt. Although we hadn't booked, and it was busy, we were seated immediately and a waitress was with us within moments to take a drink order and then our lunch order followed equally as quickly. I was able to choose the 'small size' option for £7.95, and actually it didn't look very much different from my friend's regular sized one at £9.95. We followed this with dessert, which was excellent.
The decor is very attractive, and the loos are spotless. What more can you ask for?

We have started stopping off at the Anglers Arms on our way back from Scotland for a meal so we don't have to cook when we get home after a long journey. It has a lovely old fashioned homely feel to it in the Bar and that is where we go and eat with our dog. The staff are always so friendly to Jess and helpful.
The food is plentiful and, we think, good value, big portions! As for vegetarian food, well I am just so glad there are several options! In the pubs near us in Yorkshire, it is a miracle if there is anything on the menu at all for veggies. Usually have to phone ahead and ask for something it is THAT bad here!
The pub is in a lovely location and we have thought about going to stay there sometime.

Ate here with a group of five a few weeks ago. Service good, prices reasonable, nice atmosphere and typical old country pub feel to the place. Unfortunately the menu was pretty old fashioned too, with mushroom stroganoff as the veggie option (very dull, and could have done with a lot more rice), and shredded fried leeks as garnish on everything - that fad passed years ago, didn't it? In an area of the country that seems very lacking in decent places to eat this one stood out as about the best during our few days in Northumberland, though. Acting on advice from the people (several) that recommended this place we ate in the bar and not the railway carriage.

We went for lunch with family, and the staff were great. Took our time ordering as not everyone arrived at once.
We had one of the lovely specials of the day - but nearly everyone in party had something different, and inspite of being pretty busy, they managed to produce all the meals at once.
Great service and food, and to be recommended.

Had a meal last week in the A La Carte restaurant which is situated in the Railway Carriage, we were worried at the beginning when we were brought extremely dry rolls and margarine!!! It was most definiately margarine and we sent them back. A nice touch was the little cup of very tasty vegetable soup given to all of our party before our meal. The rest of the meal was excellent, staff were very friendly.

Just got back from 3 nights at the Anglers Arms. Had a really good time. The food was excellent, staff very friendly, and the room was good. Had the added advantage of being able to take my dog with us. we preferred to dine in the dining room rather than the railway carriage as it was less formal, which suited us - the carriage though lovely on the inside, looked like it needed painting on the outside, my only criticism. Also took part in the quiz on Thursday night after our meal, and I was amazed at the size of the plate of complimentary sausage and chips, which we had to pass on because we were so full after our excellent meal. Will definitely come again as Northumberland is so lovely and quiet, and fairly unspoilt.

Just back from a 3 night stay at the Anglers Arms with a group of 8 golfers.
We were made very welcome by the staff, the food was excellent and the rooms were very good.
We did not dine in the railway carriage as it was a bit romantic for 8 guys.
No complaints from anyone, would definitely return.
