“The best was last.”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

We had just walked Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle to Heddon over four days in glorious sunshine and we arrived at Heddon Lodge hot and tired. We were initially apprehensive having heard and seen some indifferent reports but our welcome from David and Jacqui, accompanied by a refreshing cup of tea (or coffee or orange, if preferred), could not have been better. The Lodge was immaculate and the facilities just perfect - as a larger than most person, the voluminous shower was magnificent.
The alfresco breakfast on the verandah with an exceptional view towards Newcastle in aforesaid sunshine was superb with fresh fruit and yogurt to die for followed by an excellently cooked plateful.
A nice touch was an offer from Jacqui to drive my foot - blistered wife to the pub for dinner.
Hadrian Wall walkers don't miss this gem!

This is not an ordinary house, it is a sumptuous home, into which we were very warmly welcomed, inspite of being a bit hot after the last yomp up the hill to reach here!
Conservatory setting for breakfast was an additional surprise, with views towards Newcastle, would recommend to any Wall Walkers.

Nothin' here to complain about, really! Arrived earlier than expected and received a cuppa tea for welcoming, while the room was set up. Nice location with beautiful view over the valley. Breakfast was very good and rich. There's no complimentary wifi in the house, but the pub next to it offers free access.

We got on well with Jacqueline and found her to be a welcoming host.Everything was clean and well appointed. It felt more like staying with a (distant) relative. We were the only guests at the time. I'm not sure I would have enjoyed sharing a breakfast table with strangers but that's just me! Otherwise I felt it was everything I would have hoped for. Her Easter egg gifts were a kind gesture and her mother makes lovely jam!

We stayed at Heddon Lodge for 7 nights it was a beautiful house with wonderful views, it is not only for walkers we had our car and visited Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Keilder Forest, Northumberland costal route and many other place along the way. In fact we did not manage to see all we wanted and therefore will possibly return.
Breakfast was good and Jacqui the owner was very welcoming nothing was too much trouble for her we had a lovely holiday.

Our first night on our Wall walk & a great start. Welcoming cup of tea, front door keys as we went off to the Swan for a meal, could make our own coffee when we got back, comfortable room & a great breakfast, really good sausages.
We had a packed lunch made up as well. Recommend it to anyone else doing the Wall.

This is a truely beautiful place to stay if you are walking Hadrian's Wall Trail (as we were) or exploring the gorgeous countryside. The lodge is just a few paces off the trail, so very handy when you have walked the trail all day. The double room which we had was stunning, exceptionally clean and well decorated. There is an ensuite shower room. The view across the valley from the bedroom window is breath taking, but the best thing of all is the bed - so comfortable we didn't want to get out!

We had breakfast on the patio as it was a lovely sunny morning, and we were loved the stunning views of the surrounding countryside whilst enjoying a very decadent breakfast (fresh fruit, yogurt, museli, compote, toast, toasted tea cakes and a yummy full English breakfast!

Jacqui is the most friendly and welcoming hostess you could wish for, and she made sure that our stay was as pleasant and refreshing as possible.

The Swan Hotel is just up the bank from Heddon Lodge - so you won't have to go far for a fabulous evening meal - the carvery is out of this world!

We would recommend the Heddon Lodge an hope to return ourselves!
