Cresswell Towers Holiday Park - Park Resorts
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 4, 2011

Myself, my 4 year old, my mate and her 5 year old, arrived at Cresswell Towers on Friday for a weekend away, booked through a Sun holiday promotion. The Silver or 'Luxury' caravan we were given (we'd paid for an upgrade) was filthy, and apart form the odd wipe here and there did not appear to have been cleaned. There was a razor next to the steps into the caravan, and a pair of dirty pants in the living room cupbaord - discovered to my horror by one of the kids! We managed to spend the night, only because we had our own bedding, but even then it was a struggle. On Saturday morning we couldnt bear it any longer and packed up our things. We complained at reception as we were leaving and they convinced us to consider a Gold caravan instead. We agreed to look at it, and though it was better it still didnt seem that clean, and so we left. The week before we'd stayed in another caravan park and had a brilliant weekend, but this just wasnt the case at Cresswell Towers. It feels run down, tatty, and just plain dirty. Such a shame as location appeared so lovely.

Booked this through the sun holidays. Small site with the usual activities for example swimming pool, amusements, pub/club.
Caravan wasnt that clean but the bedding was immaculate. Also there was a faint sort of musty smell but apart from that it was warm enough and manageable for our 2 night stay.
We only used the pool. Its ok if a bit small. Changing area needs to be looked out and the lockers are cages that are visable from the pool but I wouldnt have had anything of real value in there. I could imaging that in the height of summer it would be a nightmare to get changed ect.... as there are only 4 changing rooms.
Our two boys loved the site and the playgroung was quite good for two very active boys.
Nice surrondings not far from the beach and a little shop that sells ice cream.
The one thing I didnt like was the fact that we couldnt park our car outside the caravan, it had to be parked in designated bays.
Overall the kids enjoyed it and that's what counts.

We've just been to this site last week £100 mon-fri, nice location and nice weather. The site was your average caravan site done by a big company like Park, much better than Haven which are massive and much more tacky and noisy. We had a bronze van which if people actually read the info would know they only have one fire as heating and as the power and entertainment passes are included in the price (unlike haven) you can crank up the fire and its fine. Also it tells you several times in the info you get sent that you can't check in until after 4pm, this is usually the case unless you pay extra. Caravans are always drafty and have crap showers but thats just what its like its still better than a tent, just put a jumper on! Ours was perfectly clean enough, they always have a funny smell and can be a bit tatty looking but you're not in there much cos you should be out enjoying the area!! If you are that picky you shouldn't go on a caravan holiday. Staff, bar and shop were nice. Definitly stay at a Park resort again.

Room Tip: Expect it to be cold and to need some kitchen stuf

When we arrived we went to reception to check in. We were told to go and wait in the bar area until 4pm when someone would meet us to check in. no one turned up. we then saw other people getting their keys from the fast food counter. This is in fact where the keys were held and you introduction to the site given. if the man had told us this we could have avoided sitting around for half an hour. not the best start. Found our caravan dumped our stuff and went to get some shopping etc. got back at around 7.30pm went to put things in fridge and was hit by a foul smell. At first thought it was some cleaning product and left it closed. went to get something out about 30mins later and found that even though it had been on for hours it was still warm and making alot of noise. I decided to turn it off before it blew up. we then over the next couple of hours found more things that weren't right. the cleaning was awful, hairs in the plug hole on bathroom sink, all the pots and pans needed a good wash before use(a rinse if not used for a while would not have caused concern but dried on fat was another thing). There was nobody on site to complain to at night so we slept there for the night. during the night i noticed that there was a draft from the window in bedroom as the curtain was flapping about. the window shut and the catched made but the hinges were sprained and you could see daylight between the window and the frame. Next morning my partner went to look at having a shower and found that the shower bracket was broken and you had to hold the shower head i your hand. This was the last straw, 9am and reception opened so we went to complain. Was told that someone from housekeeping had to come and have a look which they did within about 45mins(i thought they were going to take hours) . She took one look at everything and went off to the site manager , came back a couple of minutes later to tell us we were being upgraded. We had booked a bronze caravan and so i assume what we were put in was a silver. There was a huge difference in the vans the new one was clean, in a lot better condition, loads more room and everything worked.

The site itself isn't brilliant but isn't bad, has pool, bar entertainment etc. but the vans are quite close together and you cannot drive to the side of your van. If your van is next to the roadway then you can park next to it otherwise you can be in for a trek across the grass which if wet would not be pleasant.

The reception area is very flash but that is because they are all about trying to sell you a caravan, don't let this fool you. I get the impression that this site would be chavtastic come the summer holidays judging by some of the clientele when we stayed.

We wont be stopping here again.

Room Tip: go and complain if your van isnt upto scratch

We hired a static caravan, which was clean enough and in ok repair. We managed to trip the fuse box twice just using the toaster. The site was ok, some litter and dog mess though. The indoor pool was fine. It is a good location being near to a beach and an easy drive to better beaches and countryside. The view down the coast is blighted by the aluminium plant and power station.

We booked a 4 day break Mon - Fri, we arrived to book in with no problems. Booked a bronze caravan as we had the pooch with us, well we were really pleased with what we had been allocated, the caravan was way above what I would class as a bronze, was nipping clean, all the utensils and gadgets you would need, only negative was there was no DVD player as promised, but to be fair do you really need a one? Site was really quiet, well kept and friendly staff, little on site shop was reasonably priced and stocked for basics, etc. Can't comment on the retaurant or the bar as we never needed to use them. The pool was great for kids of all ages and unlike some other reviews we found the temp in the water fine. Location, location, location....what a spot, cresswell village itself is pretty, but the beach is beautiful, and only 5 mins walk away. Overall I would return and recommend the site to anyone. There are some older caravans on site, but as many of them are owned you would expect that, but you can see that many are being removed and upgraded.
Northumberland is a beatiful part fo the UK, the park is a great base to explore it.

We did a tesco vouchers week in a bronze(for dogs) caravan. We were very apprehensive about our holiday as some winter reviews were awful. But more recent seemed more positive.I must say tho we were very pleasantly surprised. The site was small, quiet and reasonably tidy. Our accommodation was a lot better than expected. It was clean and tidy with ample utensils and equipment.we had a meal at the site tavern which was nice. Our only criticisism was that a providing a Hoover especially in a pet caravan would have useful and seeing the tavern had a bouncer outside put us off going in a night. All in all a good holiday at a bargain price.
