Loved Newbiggin house so convenient for the sea, had a few queries when we arrived but sorted straight away owner couldn't have been more, helpful. Only criticism is the dishwasher isn't big enough for,ten people, but that didn't spoil the enjoyment of the holiday.

“Great location, real little gem on the Northumberland coast.”
Reviewed August 9, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Stayed in Tahfay house with extended family. The house is spacious, great for our group. We went into Newbiggin for an Italian on our first night, but cooked on our second and third night in the well equipped kitchen. the large dining table and courtyard were perfect for socialising!
The kids spent the weekend at the beach, there was a fab ice cream parlour in the centre which was so reasonable.
Newbiggin is less well known than most places on the Northumberland coast, but definitely my favourite. Perfect for a getaway.

“Lovely spacious house, well equipped for large groups, great seaside location”

We stayed in Tahfay House for 3 nights in October 14 with a group of 3 families with children from 7 - 10. Thanks to Stuart for his swift and helpful responses to my enquiries. Not sure what the smell previous reviewers referred to was as we found nothing of this nature but based on the experience I had dealing with Stuart I have confidence that had he been contacted he would have dealt with the situation. I also felt the property was very reasonably priced.

We were impressed by how spacious the property was. We've not been away in such a large group before and I was worried that lounge space would be cramped but there was plenty of room for 10 of us plus dog to hang out. Kids were very excited to have TVs in their rooms and adults very happy to find such a well equipped kitchen. I've never stayed somewhere with such a wide range of crockery. We did not cook extensively but if you wanted to there are pans large enough to cook up a storm for a group of 10. Beds were all comfortable and showers efficient - no concerns about running out of hot water.

The sea is at the end of the road - there are steps down and a great view of The Couple in the bay. There is a small coop 3 minutes from house, a welcoming pub (The New Ship) and a great chippy (The Corner Plaice) just beyond the pub on the opposite side of the road. We arrived on a Saturday and went down for fish and chips. The proprietor mentioned that on Sundays she cooks Sunday lunch so the following day we all headed down with plates and were served up a real feast for £4/ person (£2.50 for the kids). Heartily recommended.

House is handy for the Woodhorn museum which covers the mining history of the area and was interesting both for kids and adults. We also visited the maritime museum in Newbiggin and bought fishing nets for the kids to take advantage of the rockpools at the end of the bay.

I would happily return to Tahfay House.

“Nice house, shame about the smell!”

The house was large enough for our extended family of 5 adults, 1 teenager and two 3 year olds; not sure if would have been so enjoyable with 10 adults!
The rooms were a decent size and everywhere was clean and recently decorated. However there was a very musty smell when we first entered the house and the kitchen cupboards smelt the same. The fridge is in a very awkward position behind the kitchen door. The outside area to the rear was attractive but too small to be comfortable and we never actually sat in it.
The location is ideal for the beach and is handy for the local shops. Newbiggin has quite a lot to offer: small supermarkets, local shops, Italian ice cream parlour and a very reasonable Italian restaurant which serves delicious food. At the end of the promenade is a new marine museum exhibition centre with a cafe . There are also three antique shops which had some great bargains!
There are plenty of attractions round about although some of the more popular places in Northumbria such as Seahouses and Bamburgh Castle are a fair distance by car.
I think Tahfay House was a little over-priced.

Unfortunately the issue of the smell was not reported to us, so we could investigate, we are unable to verify this claim and have not noticed any smell ourselves. Although we thoroughly clean the house we do encourage our visitors to leave the house clean and tidy, as they found it, for the benefit of incoming guests. This greatly assists us with the cleaning and preparation for new visitors. In this case, this guest left the house in a very poor state; the bathrooms were disgraceful and would have definitely had an odour at the end of their stay.
