From the outside you would fail to notice this establishment as the provider of quality rooms. This feeling continues as you initially enter the hotel from an inconspicuous entrance e side. The entrance hall looks run down and building work is going on othe main staircase.
It is hard to spot where the reception is from the entrance and the hall needs a fresh look to it.
However, after being shown past all this, to our room by a welcoming host we were over the moon.
The room was excellent and everything we wanted and needed. The beds are very nice and the bed linen is so inviting. A full compliment of tea and coffee await with a perfect view to match.
The bathroom facilities are good, though a lick of paint and filler would do wonders.
Breakfast in e morning was excellent and a reasonable price.

Overall, if you are looking for a place to stay overnight or for a coupe of days in or around the area I would certainly recommend The Old Ship.

Just spent 3 nights in the Old Ship we had a lovely clean cosy room with a sea view,Sitting in the window looking out to sea was pleasant, the bed was very comfortable with crisp white bedding, Jackie the owner is very obliging and friendly nothing was too much trouble for her, Referbishment is going on but that didn't bother us, the locals in the bar were very friendly never a Dull moment after 3 nights we felt like locals. New- Biggin-By-The- Sea is a small village but there is lots of places to visit in the area Northumberland is one of the nicest Counties in the Country, We enjoyed every moment we were there, We will be going back.

My son and I stayed here whilst we were cycling. The landlady was welcoming and provided us with a secure place to store our bikes. The rooms are very clean and we both had sea views, the beds were comfortable and the showers were good (just what you need after a day cycling). Breakfast was plentiful and set us up for the next day's ride. The rate we paid for two rooms with breakfast was extremely reasonable. I would recommend a stay.

We choose the BB as it was close to location of an evening event we were attending. The room had a great sea view, decorated tastfully and spacious. It had every thing we needed and had a comfortable stay over all. Did not have time to sample the food this time round but there's always next time. We relaxed in the bar after the event and were given tickets to see the live band in the other bar. Staff and locals were all friendly and welcoming and would go back and stay again and reccommend to others.

The Old Ship is the perfect get-away! Be it for Business or Leisure. I have now stayed at the hotel on several occassions, the staff are friendly and very welcoming to their village as are the Management team and locals. I had the pleasure on my last stay of sampling the Sunday food menu and it didnt disapoint! The pub has regular theme nights (Quiz,Open Mic, Karaoke) and one off live bands that take place monthly. For the latest information from Dennis, Jackie and the staff and customers of this perfect sea-side hotel, check out their facebook, I discovered it after my first visit!

Will definatley be back in the near future for another great night out!

really confused regards review by "joyce" as this certainly did not seem to be the same establishment myself and freinds enjoyed. We found the landlord dennis charming, though a little eccentric, whilst his partner jackie was wonderful and obliging and more than willing to provide breakfast at the earliest of hours e.g 5am.
Would certainly recomend a stay of any duration!

Room Tip: ask for sea view

We recently decended on the Old Ship Newbiggin as a quick getaway, and to be honest we wished we hadnt bothered! Jackie & Dennis have about as much business acumen as my little finger. Despite what the website says, the pub does NOT offer any food except for 2 and a half hours on a Sunday. The water was constantly cold when we tried to shower, the TV didnt work either. The member of staff behind the bar that went by the name of Kirsty was unwelcoming and incredibly rude!
The actual pub is fantastic and I believe if someone with an ounce of common sense was to take over this pub, it would be a little goldmine! The pub boats a restaurant and huge bar area, but neither of these rooms are open, we were informed by the locals that they are used to store the landlords OCD for collecting junk!
Avoid this place like the plague! - for places to stay check out the B N B just up the road!

Room Tip: Avoid this pub!
