With a lot of snow fall recently i was a little worried about being stranded in such a rural location but the roads had been cleared and when i approached the hotel i was pleased to see the whole car park area and surrounding pathways had also been cleared. the welcome was warm and friendly and i was helpfully told of my free internet access, access to the leisure facilities and choice of restaurant or bar menu options for dinner. i had not opted for breakfast but was told if i changed my mind just to pop along in the morning.
The room was spacious and warm, decorated tastefully in a traditional themeand above all was clean and fresh, plus i had a beautiful view of rolling hills covered in snow as a bonus.
The only catch with the room was i could hear the TV through an ajoining room door, that was obviously locked, but the occupants were obviously aware of my presence too and were considerate and in all i had a lovely nights sleep.

i opted for the bar for a casual evening meal, the lady on duty was delightfully helpful when i queried the menu and even poped off the the kitchen (which apparently was upstairs) to check if there was kidney in the steak pie, [i am a very fussy eater :) ] the pie was served with mash and seasonal vegatables very quickly, was pipping hot and was delicious.

The leisure facilities....the pool.... was lovely and warm although quite small ... with 3 people trying to swim there was just enough room, when a 4th person arrived i got out to give the others room. ideal for a group of friends but a little too cosy for strangers, lol. i still enjoyed my 20 min dip though.
i will definately be revisiting this Hotel in the future

I have been lucky enough to have stayed here over many years on business. The location is not only ideal for my place of employment, but is within a stones throw of many great villages and historical sites of interest. Genuinely a must consider, if you are thinking of a quiet get away where the welcome is warm and friendly. Add to this the home made corned beef pie that's now available on the menu and you have nirvana!!!

Derwent Manor has friendly staff throughout its team who are very welcoming and genuinely wish to chat to you during your stay making for a very relaxed place. We booked a package which included a hot chocolate and toasted teacake on arrival , great for the time of year. The menu offered in the restaurant changed each evening so great choice of food which was all well presented and cooked. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Due to our break being at Christmas every public area and space seemed to have a lovely decorated christmas tree which all added to the festive atmosphere. To access the pool you need to go outside to the leisure club so need appropriate clothing with you. We had a five minute drive to the cycle paths where we walked along the paths leading to a via duct which you can walk along to see the views of the river and countryside. Included in our package was a packed lunch which was very welcome during our day out. The fells are nearby too. As Derwent Manor is on a hillside, to reach our room we had to walk down a few steps fpr each level so if this is a problem for you ask for a room on the level near the resataurant and bar. We would recommend this place to our friends.

Room Tip: Our room looked onto the hillside so lovely view despite it being winter bet it's great in summe...

We booked a gala night party for about 40 friends and family to celebrate a birthday. Many of our party stayed overnight. The staff could not have been more helpful during the arrangements for the night and on the night itself. Our party came from all over England and Europe and each they all said they were made to feel very special. The meal that was served was stuffed chicken with a vegetarian option and the following entertainment, a singer and then disco appealed to all tastes. Birthday boy was presented with a bottle of wine from the hotel. The service throughout the night was slick and professional. The bedrooms were well equipped and comfortable and there was no complaints from any of our party. Such a friendly hotel set in stunning grounds well worth a visit. Great staff

Derwent Manor is a lovely hotel. Rooms are clean and spacious with excellent views. Staff are professional and welcoming. I have stayed in many hotels and can say Derwent is one of my favourites. The evening meal is delicious. (stayed 3 times since October 2012) and I can't fault a thing! Derwent Manor is excellent value for money.
Thank you to all the staff for helping make my Mother in Laws 70th birthday such an enjoyable surprise for her.

...by which I mean the stay is familiar, comforting, welcoming and warm, but a bit tired and elderly around the edges.

Stayed here with my sister whilst visiting family in the area. We booked the Derwent Manor for its close proximity to our relatives' houses, but also for nostalgia, having stayed here many moons ago when our parents were still alive.

Pros: It's spacious, clean and comfortable in a lovely setting. We had a room with two double beds. The beds were really comfy with lovely linen and pillows. I slept so well here. The room and the bathroom were sparkly clean. Good shower, which is always a bonus. Very friendly accommodating staff. Good breakfast selection.

Cons: Needs a bit of updating. There have been small modernisations - the soft furnishings etc, but the bedroom furniture and bathroom was pure 80s. Peach coloured Victoriana style suite. The TV is very old fashioned, but it worked. Home made laminated notices - a pet hate of mine - one in the bathroom warning that the towel rail gets hot and others in various places around the hotel. The hotel is built on a hillside and there were lots of small stairs to negotiate, even with the lift. Public areas are a bit dated now. The carpets are an amazing array of patterns. Framed artwork on the walls in our corridor looked like an experiment with bronze, silver and gold matchpots - or elephant art. Radio 2 was blaring out full bore at breakfast. Now I like a bit of Chris Evans, but this was full on and probably not everyone's cup of tea. Also, one dining table was strategically positioned way too close in front of the fire exit.

If you want all mod cons and modern decor, then this isn't for you. If you want friendly, spacious and good value for money with a great sleep, then give it a whirl.

I would stay there again, definitely. Might even get time to use the Leisure Club.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems, please tell them on booking. We had a bit of a hike to our rooms - up...

Thanks for being so honest and to the point, the table near the fire door has been agreed with the authorities as we have 3 other natural escapes, hope you and your sister return again soon.
