“More than just Pub Grub”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Gorgeous little pub with a great selection of beers and ales. We have eaten here a few times including Sunday lunch and have enjoyed every meal there. A bit more pricey than the usual pub grub but well worth it. The food is prepared and presented beautifully. Portions are generous and the deserts are to die for. Well worth a visit!!

“Lovely traditional Pub, great food”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We visited The Fox last week on a really cold icy evening for a celebration with family and friends. The Pub is a beautiful traditional stone building with a really nice homely feel, with open fires which was just what we needed that night. The menu was great and we were all very happy with our choices and the service was very quick and all the staff were very friendly. The standard of the food was excellent and value for money. We were there on a Wednesday and it was ladies' night with a 3 course menu for £16.50 including a glass of wine, which two of us had and it was delicious. Will definitely return on our next visit to our daughter who lives nearby. Highly recommended.

“Great for post-Christmas family gathering”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

I happened upon The Fox At Farthinghoe's website while looking for somewhere 'in the middle' where family coming from Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Bedfordshire could meet for a post-Christmas Sunday lunch get-together. The Fox fitted the bill brilliantly. Despite only contacting them 3 days before our preferred date, they were able to accommodate a lunch party of 14 (including 3 children), requesting only that, due to being a large group, we send in our menu choices via email no later than the day before. This was easily done with the benefit of having their 'Sunday Lunch' special menu and 'Dining Room' main menu accessible online.

I was advised on the phone that, being a large party, it was likely that we would be seated at several smaller tables, rather than one large one. However, on arrival we discovered that the staff had indeed been able to seat us all at one large table, by re-arranging the furniture in one part of the pub. This included enough space for the two younger children in our party (aged 3 and 20 months) to get down from the table and play on the floor next to us when they got restless - again, a request made to the staff while booking which was obligingly accommodated without any fuss.

We were greeted and served by Tom, the restaurant manager, and the bar and waiting staff with courtesy and good humour. Drinks orders were taken at the table without being intrusive. Our meals (including 3 starters, main courses for all, 7 desserts and a number of coffees) were served in good time, without a long wait between courses and were delicious. Our party chose a range of options, including the roast pork and roast beef from the Sunday Lunch special menu, and the plaice fillet, sausages and mash, fish & chips and mussels from the main menu. All plates were cleared, with no complaints from anyone! Desserts, for those who had them, were equally tasty (including lemon tart, toffee pudding and strawberry shortbread with cream and fresh fruit), and presented beautifully by the chef. Our total bill, including drinks, came to £215, which was reasonable considering the quality of both the meal, and the experience overall (mains around £9-14, starters/desserts around £5, Sunday Lunch special £18 for 3 courses).

Overall, we were delighted to have found The Fox At Farthinghoe, and as it is so conveniently located at a roughly equal distance between different branches of the family (and only minutes from the M40 Junc.11 - although well out of sight and earshot!), I have no doubt we will be back again.

“Superb warm surroundings, great service & wonderful food.”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

We ate here as a family as we were also looking for a venue for a small family gathering after a school carol service to present a CD to family.

The food was fantastic traditional British gastro Pub food. The restaurant was actually closed when we wanted to have the family gathering however, the manager laid up two tables and put on mince pies, chocolate cake, teas and coffee at a very readable cost too. This was fantastic service and we as a family will all eat here again and highly recommend the Fox.

“Stepping back in time”
Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

My wife and i spent the night here as I was doing something in the area.
The room we stayed in was one of four what I would term as a weekend room perfect for just that.
It was clean and tidy and well presented with all the amenities including internet access.
We used the pub itself for our evening meal this was excellent with lots to choose from and plenty of it, the staff although very busy were attentive and friendly.
The atmosphere was warming and comfortable as was the decor exactly what you hope of a typical village pub.
As we were staying you were given a very large breakfast basket which had plenty in it, but if your not into continental style breakfast there is a farm just down the road that does a typical English.
All in all with everything taken into consideration it was excellent value and it made for a lovely weekend.
If your round that way give it a go you won't be disappointed if you are then you must be very hard to please.
