My wife and I stayed there for 2 nights back in early December. We had a splendid time there. "Far from the madding crowd's ignoble strife," it was indeed the remotest spot you could get away to.

Roberto, Director of Operations, is really a wonderful and friendly host as are other staff members at the place. He took the time to talk to us and we felt like we had known him for a long time.

The hacienda is also ideal for taking day trips to Campeche or Edzna and surrounding places. It was great to come back there at te end of the day and feel perfecly at home.

The only thing I would change would be the menu at the restaurant. I would have liked more whole grain/whole wheat type of items for our meals as well as more sea food choices (eg. red snapper, sea bass, salmon etc) for those who do not eat red meat. Also, Campeche being just half hour's drive from Uayamon, one would expect plenty of sea food options at lunch or dinner.

Aside from this, as well as a nagging on and off sound at night from the switch box attached to our unit to regulate energy, we had a truly memorable stay.

We stayed for one night in a superior room (room 9).

The hotel is located about half an hour from Campeche in the middle of nowhere. It is surrounded by jungle and you see many birds and butterflies. The main appeal of the place is the successful juxtaposion of renovated buildings and crumbling ruins. The main buildin has been tastefully renovated and is brightly painted. It sits next to a ruin where the pool is located. A truly unusual setting with a very comfy hammock to spend the day. The vegetation is lush and full of colourful flora and fauna.

Our room was a large restored cabin in the woods with a large bed and bathroom with a huge bathtub. There is also an outside seating area, but the vegetation surrounding it isn't as pretty and it faces other buildings, so we never used it an dprecerred to sit by the pool.

We hardly saw any other hotel guests and felt ruly remote.

We had a very tasty breakfast but didn't take dinner in the restaurant, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food.

The hotel's weekness is its level of service. Hardly any of the staff seem to speak English and we got the feeling that the entire place lacked managerial direction. Turndown service was either forgotten pr consisted of placing a footmat in front of the bed.

Altogether it is definitely worth staying for a night to experience the beauty of the place, but don't expect the level of service you usually get from hotels of its price category.

It was a really hot day when we arrived at Campeche airport - 36 degrees - phew! We rented a car at the airport and made our way courtesy of google maps to Hacienda Uayamon.

As soon as you arrive you are transported back in time to the days of sisal production and colonial glamour. The cluster of buildings and ruins have a great charm particularly as they are colourful, now fading and crumbling gently, surrounded by jungle with a huge ceiba / kapok tree in the foreground. At night they are cleverly lit to provide an eery, romantic setting.

The rooms are some way from the main building along forest paths. Ours was quite dark with high wooden vaulted ceilings with a modern open plan bathroom along a corridor with huge square bath (we didn't try it since it would have taken an age to fill !), and an outside shaded lounging area.

We only had 2 nights there and needed to explore the local town so didn't make use of all the facilities but the pool within the ruins of the old sisal factory is a superb setting for a cooling swim and lounge in a hammock, and the complimentary 10 minute massage was certainly invigorating.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Only one spoke any english so some spanish is definitely helpful. The food was ok, not outstanding - perhaps the only thing to let the place down a bit, but you can take your meal wherever you fancy. We had lunch on our own under the huge ceiba tree enjoying the surroundings - marvellous.

If you need wifi it is only available in the main building and we found it quite slow.

It is quite expensive, particularly for Mexico, and part of the Starwood Preferred Resort group so top US prices - but we were glad to have experienced it.

Hacienda Uayamon is, very simple, a little paradise on Earth.
Our "room" was a little house with a large bedroom, a bathroom with a shower, a jacuzzi with a panoramic view to the woods and a covered bench in the forest where you could read or just relax. The scenery is incredible: the rooms/little houses are spread out in the woods, a colonial larger house serves as the main building, and the pool is inserted in the remains of an ancient fabric factory.
The service was outstanding. We went bird watching with one of the staff, who also told us a bit more about the property and the village.
The only thing that is not excellent is the restaurant. Given the high quality of the accommodation, I was expecting a marvellous meal, but it was just good.

This was, without a shadow of a doubt, the best hotel I have ever been to!
