Visited on a jot and sunny day and really enjoyed the visit. Parking is free and if you just want to walk in the grounds, go in the church and the tea rooms, then that is all free too. It's only £5 to go into the Keep area and its well worth the money. Do take the audio tour as it explains everything.....well worth the money.

Very lovely setting and opportunity to use your imagination - remember back to the battles and the defence of Britain. Whilst it is a ruin, there is still plenty to enter and experience, and the church is lovely too.
Cafe is very welcoming.
Great in great weather.

On a sunny day we took the chance to visit this very impressive Castle. We started by visiting St Mary’s Church within the walls of The Castle. Fascinating in itself and with an excellent tea room and garden with home made cakes. Interesting that the famed Portsmouth based nautical painter William Wyllie is buried in the churchyard. Suitably replenished we visited the castle where we received a welcoming introduction to the site. The entry costs are good value given that it includes the informative audio guide. We have been to The Castle on previous occasions but never knew half the information that was revealed by the audio, for example the Richard the Second connection. It really is a must. We worked our way through the various areas ending on the Roof of The Keep with tremendous views over the Harbour towards The Spinnaker Tower in the distance. An enthralling afternoon that would appeal to all the family.

What can I say, we just loved this castle and its grounds. Fabulous views from the top of the castle, real knee shaker up there, all across the Solent. So much to learn so much to see and absolutely beautiful grounds that are free. Great place for familes, romantic couples and dog walkers alike. Our age group ranged from 10 to 79 and we all had the best time and want to go back.
