“Good value for a bed for the night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

Needed a very cheap bed for my wife and I on way back from airport ahead of a family visit on a Saturday night. At £45 for the double room only this was just the job. Reading West is a bit of a Ryanair description as you could easily call it Newbury East. The hotel is easy to find on the A4, well lit and plenty of parking. Cramped corridors and room not huge but fairly clean, all facilities as advertised an quiet. Good for a crash after a party or as we used it.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the bar on the first floor at the end

we celebrated our joint birthdays here on 8th june and several family members stayed over at the hotel.
The hotel is small, intimate and has a real family feel to it. Check-in was quick, relaxed and simple. We had a large family room which had a huge king bed and 2 singles. It was perfectly clean and had everything you needed. Other family members had double rooms - some were on the small side but again perfectly clean and serviceable. Breakfast was buffet style and really good. Every member of staff we met were extremely helpful and polite. A big thank you to Kim, Louise and Gavin for a fantastic memorable weekend.

I wasn't expecting much from the look of it. Looks like a truck stop.

However the staff are really good, the food is even better and was looked after throughout my stay.

Unfortunately my room was right next to the train track (the 5:26am was on time past the hotel) but it was clean and I had ear plugs.

If you need any supplies find a supermarket before as there's only one shop (from what I could find) which is the petrol station so prices are inflated like the petrol prices.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 6 - choo choo.

Hi there

We went to the Out of Town event two months ago and had a very friendly reception, everyone welcomed us and made sure we were fine, the hotel was very clean and we had a meal at the event which was superb.
The whole experience was fabulous and we are planning to go for my birthday next month again with more friends.

Well done on keeping sch a great hotel going, I would book a room there too with no problem what so ever

Room Tip: All rooms.

We stayed here for two nights, the staff were extremely welcoming and couldn't have done enough for us. The room although basic, was clean and warm. There was everything we needed for the short stay.
The food was nice, large portions. The drinks from the bar were a touch expensive however I suppose given the rooms were a decent price we cant complain.
We visited the UK wolf conservation trust when we stayed and it was practically across the road so ideal for our stay.

Started badly when I rang to book, I was called 'mate', 'fella', 'pal' and 'sir' during the call. The guy on reception obviously had a day off when they did the receptionist training. I'm no prude and don't expect airs and graces but this treatment can't be right ?
I felt I was well overcharged at £55 for a small room, scruffy and dated with furniture from the local tip and a bed that creaked with every slight movement. Bathroom very small with worn out taps, towel rings and exposed unpainted copper piping to the shower. On a busy main road so not quiet either. Carpet was smelly and stained.
Food in the restaurant was OK (but only OK, nothing special).
The whole place is in need of a refurb and modernisation - I only stayed because I couldn't find anywhere else at short notice.
I won't be going back......

Room Tip: I would imagine you'd get a better kip in a room at the back away from the road.

Hello Ronnie48, firstly, we are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. There are things you highlight that we have today actioned and implemented into short term training projects. This will not happen again and we are happy to apologise when we make a mistake.
The issue you raise concerning rate is also being looked into, although in todays' world of high level internet sales and "Best Available Rate", we try our best to sell competatively and with value in mind. If we do not meet customer expectations then we would again offer our sincere apologies.
Should you ever wish to revisit our hotel please do make contact with me personally and I will endeavor to meet with you and make every effort to provide you with a comfortable room, good service and a hearty meal - something that I know we are able to do. Thank you again for taking the time to comment on your customer experience.

Stayed here for a night whilst working in the area, the rooms are nice but in need of a little tlc and the corridors could do with a lick of paint, on the plus side the staff are very friendly and the food in the bar/restaurant was a little expensive but very nice.also stayed for breakfast which was good too.

Hello Copey9746,

Thank you for writing about your stay with us. Your comments have been discussed with the team at the hotel and they are really appreciated. Customer feedback is important and certainly one of the ways we learn.
We do have a great team here - we'll do our best to get the corridors up to the same level! We've also begun addressing the other issues you raised and we are so glad you enjoyed your breakfast. This is an area we have been focussing on over the last year so we are very pleased to read your comments . . . .
