We stayed here for one night when attending a wedding. We arrived well before check in but as our room was all ready so we could go drop the bags and touch up before we left for the event. The staff were very welcoming and ready to help in anything we may need. We got back late to the room and with two little ones we got them settled and headed down for a night cap. The baby monitored worked very well as the bar was just below our room. It was not noisy at all.
The room was nice and large enough for the 4 of us. The bathroom was modern and clean. The towels were lush - so soft and comfy. As it is an old building the floors are not level so plays tricks with your head as things dropped on the floor roll in funny directions!
Breakfast the next morning was fab, lovely fresh and great selection. Again staff very welcoming and would get anything you needed. Would recommend and definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We had a lovely large family room lots of rooms for the 4 of us.

We visited the Hinds Head the night before my wedding and i thought the food was lovely but the service was absolutely terrible! Some of the staff were rude and unwilling to help, the food took almost two hours to reach our table, when we did eventually get served we were told my Mum's order had been lost and not all of us actually got what we ordered.
It was bad enough that my Mum had to sit and watch us eat while they were trying to find her order and when she asked them about it, the waitress sighed and acted like it was a big inconvenience to her. When my mum's dinner finally came, she found it had meat on it when she is a vegetarian and what she ordered was not supposed to have meat on it. The waitress sighed, took it away and then brought a "new" meal out. However my Mum noticed that all they had done was scrap the meat off the plate and rearranged the rest of the food to cover it. When Mum informed them of this, the waitress huffed and she then had to wait another half an hour whilst the chef made another one.
One we got the bill we found that they hadn't offered any goodwill gestures for the inconvenience caused and when my Dad confronted them, the manager said we were only entitled to free tea and coffee rather than remove my mums meal from the bill.
The food was nice but i am very disappointed with the service. I was looking forward to eating there as we had visited Aldermaston a number of times and thought it looked really nice. Needless to say if we do visit there again i hope the staff have improved their manners

Nice location, very friendly staff, good breakfast BUT bedroom 4 was very poor. So small it was difficult to get around the 4ft 6 inch bed, tiny wardrobe and ensuite shower. Needed a refurb as well, some rot to base of window, curtain valance hanging on for dear life. Pity as i think there were some better rooms but dont take number 4 ! reported to staff who said that a refurb for some rooms was on the cards

I've eaten here a few times, and have always found it very good. The food is good quality and well priced - not overly flouncy, but not with pretentious wannabe gastro-pub prices either. My last memorable meal was the trip of pork: belly, chop and kebab ISTR. I don't think it's on the menu now though. There's always two or three really interesting specials too. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. I think the best way to keep them attentive is to eat in the bar and keep them in eye-sight! It's a more social place to eat too.
If you're not dining, head to the leather sofa filled side bar and chill out with a pint of ESB and a paper!
And if you don't fancy a full meal, but need more than a packet of crisps, try their "hot sausage for 50p" deal, or better still 2 or 3 with ketchup and mustard!

Have now visited the Hinds Head on several occasions since writing not such a positive review last September. Although the service can still be slow (for some reason it takes AGES for them to make a cappucino!) the quality of the food has been excellent when it does eventually arrive, although only on one occasion have all four meals arrived simultaneously! Had the best fish and chips ever recently and their soups are delicious. Can be very busy when they're coping with wedding guests, but pick the right evening, and it's an enjoyable experience. Staff are certainly much more friendly and welcoming than previously.

Keep up the improvements Hinds Head and you've a winner on your hands!

On a previous visit last year I was so disappointed with service taking over two hours, forgotten meals and rude staff, which considering the above-average prices - you would expect better.

Visited again earlier this week and I wish it had improved vastly but it is still lacking in areas. Service continues to be slow and for some reason they seem unable to bring out all the drinks or all the meals at the same time. As a party of four we only received two drinks at a time and again the two remaining meals took so long to arrive that the other guests had almost finished.

The chicken breast meal was not served with the advertised curly kale and we ordered chips as the description did not include potato but arrived with mini new potatoes rendering the chips unnecessary but we were not advised of this by the waitress.

They do not have enough waiting staff and this leads to slow service which is a shame as the atmosphere is lovely.

We went here today for a birthday meal. The service was slow initially and drinks did not arrive. On ordering, meals came out with half missing and the staff seemed a bit confused about why we were asking for roast potatos with a roast dinner. On mentioning this to them, a couple in the next table said they had to send food back as it wasnt cooked properly...
Again waiting for the bill took an age. It was a shame as the building is lovely and the food was ok, but it seemed that all the management was by part time kids and that there wasnt an experienced restaurant manager with overall control.
