On recommendation from the owner at Casa Lisa, we changed our initial plans to camp at Xai Xai, and drove the extra 80km north to a town called Chidenguele. That was a very good choice. Oom Daan and Tannie Elsa were so friendly and helpful. Our camping site were covered under a grass-like roof (although not water tight) with own kitchen and toilet/basin.
The site were clean and there is a restaurant and bar that overlooks the ocean.
Nice for snorkeling just of the shore (no boat required)
The best thing about this is that you DO NOT REQUIRE a 4X4 to get there. Although the road from Xai-Xai to Chidenguele is horrible, it's worth the effort.
Just next door (1km) from this lodge is another lodge with a fine pool overlooking the ocean. (100mts / R25 entrance for the day). There is also a bakery in the town (aprox. 4km from the lodge)
I did not see the inside of the chalets but the friendly service and hospitality of our hosts were exceptional so I can imagine that the other types of accommodation is just as fine.More
