“Shakti pith”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Tarapith, a holy religious place, is situated in a village Tarapur under Rampurhat Police Station of Rampurhat Sub-Division in the district of Birbhum.
It is said to be so called because the eye ball (tara) of Sati fell here. Others say that Tarapith is not a pith but the place owes its sanctity to the fact that the Sage Basistha here worshipped the Goddess Sati in the form of Tara. The common local opinion is that it is really a Pith and Basistha selected this place for worshipping Sati because it was a pith.

“Divine Feeling”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

The temple is very old and people come across mainly from West Bengal and nearby states.

The road of about 500 meters to the temple is full of many gift shops and eateries. Local sweet Langcha is specialty which is must try. However these sweets are kept in open containers.

The darshan line is long and people wait for 2-3 hours in line. VIP ticket for darshan costs Rs.100/= and we got our chance fast. The darshan of Maa Tara left us with divine feelings for few moments.

“Must visit”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Though the temple is not well managed, but if you know a good purohit (priest) you will really love the puja along with the Arati in the evening followed by the Sila Murti darshan.
