We stayed here for four nights as part of a tour in Madagascar, and this was a simply fabulous hotel. The room - we had room 1 - was large, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The hotel only has electricity between 5:30 and 10:30pm, which could be a problem, although most people staying here are going to be out during the bulk of the day visiting the nearby national parks. The only other small problem was the lack of wardrobe in the room. This is understandable, as most people only stay for a night before moving on, and we were 'rarities' for staying four nights.
Everything else about the hotel was amazing. Herve, the owner was superb, both as a 'host' and as the chef. The food in the evenings was excellent. There was no choice, but having told Herve I did not like garlic in food, everything was specially prepared without, with no fuss what so ever. Rarely have I enjoyed such a range of delicate flavours in food, so subtly and well used. Each evening the meal was exquisite. One evening - as we were 'Brits' - Herve did a beautiful small shepherds pie as a starter! Breakfast was fresh fruit, but also home-made cake and bread - all served on a terrace with amazing views.
Herve mentioned that he may move to New Zealand and open a hotel there. Roads in the north of Madagascar are poor quality, but the nearby Amber Mountain was great to visit, and is home to the world's smallest vertebrate - a chameleon only 1cm long, plus tail - see photo.
If you need to stay in this part of the country, then there really is no need to look elsewhere for a hotel. Fabulous.More
