Called here over the weekend, Fri evening to be precise, had a meal was not overly impressed. Service very hapazard had the pression that no one was sure what their role was although they were attentive. The menu showed all meals served with seasonal veg, my meal was steak pie which arrived with chips and peas ( the taste of which suggested frozen ) not my idea of seasonal veg. If I had served this up at home my kids would have given me a hard time. Having read other reviews maybe I caught them on a bad day but I am not really sure.

We have just returned from a great weekend at the Crown. This is our Ripon Race Weekend and the first time we have stayed at The Crown, which is in the picturesque village of Grewlelthorpe. We were made very welcome by Pam and the staff. The breakfast was lovey, the evening meal first class. Then, when we only wanted a snack on Saturday night, we are provided with the best Pork sandwich and Chips we've had in ages. The room was clean, bright and very comfortable. By the time we left this morning we almost felt like part of the family. Thanks to Pam, her family and friends, (that will be the staff), and not least the locals for the hospitality. We will certainly be back.

Great place to stay as a party of 4 male cyclists. Stayed in one twin room and a double with an extra' put up' bed in the room. The landlady ( Pam) is a terrific host. There is a warm friendly atmosphere awaiting visitors. Rooms are very clean, and the food is superb. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday night. There is not normally food on a Monday, but Pam went out of her way to provide four hungry cyclists with food on the Monday and could not have been more helpful to us. There is a place to leave bikes at the back of the property, bikes can be locked to the fire escape, but we had no problems in leaving ours. I would recommend this as a base for cycling around the area. There are some good on and off road routes, and after a hard day in the saddle you will not be disappointed with the Crown Inn. Thanks for making our trip so good Pam, and thanks for the huge breakfasts which set us on our way every morning. Great base, great country pub atmosphere, Great food, Great landlady. At £60 per night you will not get better value!!!

Wonderful place to stay and excellent value for money. Very clean, excellent food, cosy atmospher, log fire in the pub, good ales and the best service in Yorkshire! Pam (the landlady) is amazing. I was married recently just down the road and took my wedding party there to stay for the weekend. Everyone was made up with there bedrooms and loved spending time in the pub. Pam couldn't do enough for us and everyone raved about how lovely it was. Excellent value for money, hoping to stay again one weekend with my husband to re-live some wonderful memories. Thanks for everything Pam from the whole party.

After spending two nights at this B & B, my partner and I were not disappointed. The service was faultless, and the manager went far beyond the call of duty with her helpfullness. I would definately recommend this B & B. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The food and drink were of a very high standard, and our whole weekend was made even more pleasurable by the tremendous service The Crown Inn staff provided. I would definately stay here again.

After walking through the stunning woodland of Hackfall Woods, with its picturesque follies and stunning water features we came to the Crown Inn for our lunch and we were not disappointed. Very friendly staff and great food. The huge burger and the home cooked ham were delicious. Thoroughly recommend this hostelry.

We have just spent two days at The Crown for my husband's birthday - from my first telephone call to check availability to the moment we left, we were absolutely delighted with everything.
Nothing was too much trouble, there was absolutely no pressure and we were made to feel at home from the minute we arrived for the whole time we were there.
Thursday evening in the pub was very lively, with staff and locals alike so very friendly, and a superb pub quiz, too.
Our £60 double en suite room was warm and welcoming, clean and modern, and had everything we needed - plus a few unexpected extras.
We had a very good night's sleep - such a quiet location - and the food was out of this world.
We had lunch on the first day (my husband couldn't get over the salad dressing!!), and needed the afternoon walk into Masham to be ready for our evening meal, which was an eye-opener!
I can wholeheartedly recommend the garlic mushroom starter (with the secret recipe sauce) and my chicken breast with stilton sauce was absolutely phenomenal - the portions were huge (my husband had gammon - over half an inch thick!!), and amazing value for money.
Can't say what the desserts were like - we didn't have room left to tackle them!! but the breakfast alone was worth the journey to The Crown - we got the full works, everything beautifully cooked and served at a time to suit us - we needed a slow steady walk around Harkfall woods before we set off for the drive home!
All the food was fresh, obviously sourced locally, and cooked to perfection.
I cannot believe that we were lucky enough to find the jewel of Grewelthorpe - we are already planning our next visit.
Pam went the extra mile, effortlessly making sure we had everything - and more - that we needed, providing local information to help us get the most from our all-too-short stay - she was more like a friend than a "landlady".
She certainly is one impressive lady, and there aren't many like her about, so we really do want to say thank you for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing - she deserves this review.

Room Tip: there are three rooms available - before we left, we were shown around the £80 per night family room...
