Stopped here with friends when visiting Flamingo Land. Friendly hosts who are very accommodating!

We stayed in one of the self catering cottages and it was gorgeous!

Lovely breakfast and again, lovely hosts!

We stayed over the weekend of 26-28 July 2013.We stayed in the pub rooms on the first night we then had a cottage for the Saturday and Sunday. This is a family run B&B ,It was a lovely B&B very clean and tidy and the owner made you feel at home.We stayed there due to a family wedding the rooms very comfortable very clean and the breakfast was excellent it set you up for the day.the owner and his wife were very friendly and could not do enough to ensure you enjoyed your stay ,this is also a family run pub the local pub users were also very friendly and welcoming overhaul this was a very nice and enjoyable stay and we would stay there again a very nice ,clean and lovely place to stay

Room Tip: All the rooms and cottages are excellent

We stayed at the Thompsons arms in May 2013 as we were celebrating a family Birthday. We (2 adults and 2 Children) stayed in a single story cottage which was beautifully decorated and thoughtfully equiped. The cottage may be a bit of a squeeze for a longer visit as the children slept on a sofa bed in the lounge area. but for a short stay it was fine. Other family members stayed in the two story cottage and two of the rooms in the guest house, all of which were also really lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners who gave us a really warm welcome and lots of information on the area (where to eat, walking routes etc.) as well as a tasty breakfast in the morning. There is a little courtyard where we were able to enjoy a glass of champagne together in the sunshine as well as private parking. The area is convenient for York and very peaceful. Highly recommended!

We stayed in the Thompson Arms for one night whilst attending a wedding in York , we found the owners a husband and wife team to be very friendly and at tentative. The owners were very helpful telling us about the area. The room was very clean and comfortable .
The bar opened as late as we wanted it and we managed to get a drink when we arrived back late after the wedding.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast deal which was good value for money and the breakfast was lovely. I would recommend the Thompson Arms and would definitely stay again.
Thank You

My Fiance & I stayed at The Thompson arms on Saturday 11th may 2013 as we were attending a wedding at Sandburn Hall.We were greeted by Stuart who showed us to our cottage. A delightful cottage, very spacious living room with a kitchen area & table n chairs. Upstairs had a double bed, wardrobe, draws,tv & everything needed for a lovely stay. The bathroom did not disappoint either, as the rest of the cottage, well decorated & all thats needed for a wonderful stay.
Sandburn Hall was 2 miles up the road from this B&B.

Great place, owners very welcoming & fab breakie! Stayed here for one night and was originally booked into the b&b but on arrival they'd moved us into a little cottage as we were a family with two youngsters and they thought we'd like more room. Ideally located for visiting York, Monks Cross park and ride only a short car journey away. Will definitely come back.

The location was ideal. Located in Flaxton about 9 miles NE of York. it had both a lovely, village setting and easy access to the Monk's Corner Park and Ride for touring York City Centre. It was also less than 15 minutes from Castle Howard. Our 2-story cottage, adjacent to the pub had been smartly updated and included both a separate living area and a full kitchen. It would be ideal for anyone thinking of it as a destination stay for touring not only York but Scarborough, Whitby, the Dalby Forest and the North Moors Park. The hosts were lovely and thoughtful. You'll be lucky if you're at the pub on Wednesday when there's music night - neighbors and friends gather and go around in a circle singing and/or playing songs that range from traditional folk to satiric send-ups set to modern tunes.

Looking at recent reviews, breakfast may be a recent addition but was not available during our stay. For us, self-catering was preferable during a four night stay. During a 23 day trip, there are only so many "full English breakfasts" one can (or should) handle. There were two groceries and two gas stations with the cheapest gas we found the entire trip by the Park and Ride and the kitchen had everything we needed. Thanks Stuart and Lily

Room Tip: We loved the two-story cottage, but there are two one-story options for people who don't want to...
