I wanted a light and tasty lunch which is exactly what I wanted.
This is a good looking pub/restaurant. The staff are very good and so was the food. If I have a downer it was the Adnams Broadside beer. It was on the flat side. The wood fires were a delight on a cold day.

I took my wife there for her Birthday lunch in December. We had a lovely meal and although the bar was busy we had the dining room to ourselves. Nice food and friendly service

Hadn’t been here for a few years so thought we’d give it another try.
Wish we had listened to previous reviews and gone elsewhere.
It wasn’t busy but it took 40 minutes before our order was taken.
Staff were not rude, just seemed disinterested.
Steak was ok but have had much better elsewhere at a much cheaper price. £29 for steak and a small portion of chips! A side portion of greens was £3.50 and it really was a tiny portion.
Can’t believe how much we paid for a very average meal.
Would not recommend and will not be returning

We called in with couple of friends for a pre-Christmas lunch. First surprise was that there was no lunchtime menu, just straight a la carte, and prices were West End in East Herts. However, we were there so had to go with the flow.
Service was a bit slow but the starters were very good. My black pudding with mushrooms and duck egg was really tasty, although the presentation left a little to be desired. My friends Skate cheeks with a dip was also very good and the other starters were also voted excellent.
For mains we all had a steak, a mixture of rump and rib on the bone between us. Three rare and one medium rare were ordered but when they arrived there was no difference between the rare/medium rare. We could have sent one back but it was not worth the hassle. The real gripe was paying £29 for a 12oz rib steak on the bone with just a few chips and cress (vegetables extra). That's a lot for pub grub.
To be fair my steak was very good but £100 per couple for a two course meal with a bottle of average Shiraz and a coffee is a lot of money.
Would I go back? Only, if someone else is paying.

No idea how to make food look attractive at all most of the meals looked like dogs dinners. My skate was just ok but the pork my wife had was dreadful, tough and overpowered by the herbs it had been cooked in. The quince tart i had for sweet could have been anything
