“excellent hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2014

just arrived back from a 1 night stay, bed, breakfast and evening meal at Burythorpe house hotel. On arrival we were greeted with friendly staff, the hotel itself is looking a little bit tired but refurbishment is under way, that is in no way a fault to the hotel as for me it is the character to an old house. my wife and I were put in the Selby suite which was very spacious. I cannot speak highly enough about the food, the evening meal was absolutely amazing and that is not an exaggeration. the following morning we went down for breakfast and that too was amazing. we are hoping to come back in the summer. thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay and hope to see you soon . p.s. we booked our stay through Groupon and paid £99 for the stay, Groupon states it is only Sunday to Thursday but for an extra £30 you can stay on a weekend which is more than value for money. again thank you very much for an excellent stay.

This is the best hotel I've ever been to. We arrived three hours early to be greeted by the friendliest staff I've ever met. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were constantly apologising that our room wasn't ready. We 'eventually' got to our room about an hour early after sitting in the beautiful drawing room feeling totally relaxed.

We had dinner booked the night, which was incredible, we had a bottle of prosseco by the fire, then went through to the dining room. Dinner was absolutely superb, as was the friendly service again. We went back through to the drawing room to finish our drinks.

The next morning we had breakfast, which was three unbelievable courses culminating in a fantastic full english, top quality ingredients all round. We asked a member of staff if there was anywhere we could get cash out to get the bus into town and she whipped her own purse out to lend us her own money.

The rooms in the hotel are all amazing, and so comfortable to sit in!

The rest of the trip carried on in the Sam vein, beautiful rooms, amazing service and incredible food.

Th service carried on even after we'd left the hotel. A young girl who worked there and her grandfather pulled up at the bus stop to tell us the bus doesn't run on a Wednesday but not to worry, they'd give us a lift into malton!

The hotel is amazing, the food is wonderful but what really makes this place are the absolutely incredible staff! We felt so lucky to be there.

I can't fault the two nights we have just had at Burythorpe. The staff were the nicest staff I have ever met in a hotel or restaurant. One lady, Alison, even lent us some money when we realised we had no change on us for the bus to Malton, and one of the waitresses gave us a lift to Malton the next day.

The food was incredible, some of the best we've had. Considering we paid £149 for a two night stay the amount of food we were entitled to was great; two three course breakfasts and a three course evening meal.

The hotel itself is sat in wonderful scenery and is very luxurious. We had a really nice night sat next to the fire in huge comfy sofas.

The hotel is being renovated at the moment but it doesn't affect guests at all, in fact apart from seeing a builder as we were leaving we didn't notice a thing.

We have already decided to come back twice before the summer :)

Thank you to all the staff for making it an extra special trip! You're all lovely!

We stayed here using a Travelzoo voucher which proved to be excellent value. The hotel was clean, cosey, and friendly. The food was great. The staff were all friendly and helpful providing excellent service down to the finest detail. It is within easy reach of lovely countryside, attractive coast and the city if York. Would happily go back and look forward to finding an opportunity in the future.

Just got back from an overnight stay at Burythorpe House. Booked on a Groupon deal then read the reviews. Was a little worried by some, especially those regarding cleanliness, however, these worries were totally unjustified. Our room, the Easby, was lovely. Not a speck of dust to be found. Yes, the structure was a little tired but this is to be expected in such an old building. The room was elegant and very warm, despite the huge authentic single glazed window. The bed, duvet and pillows were all soft and cozy. Dinner was delicious and service excellent. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. If I have to find a negative it is that my poached egg at breakfast was overcooked and hard in the center. A minor fault which was easily ignored considering the standard of everything else. I am looking forward to another visit soon.

Room Tip: Easby - Classic and modern with lovely views and spacious pretty bathroom.

Wondetful location. Friendly staff. First class facilities and great food. Undermined by Jack John
on a never ending loop. Think about the music choice and you will have a great country house hotel. Sorry I have not written enough characters to submit the review. There was I thinking I was pithy and succinct.
