A lovely place to have dinner or just a drink. Excellent service and good food with a lovely garden at the back.

“Nice pub, OK food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

We've been infrequent visitors to The Jackdaw since it reopened some years back - the proprietors are(I believe) still the same couple who own and run The Duke of Cumberland in Barham, just up the road. It's a classic old Kentish pub in the village of Denton - which would be a lovely location if it were not for the A260 running straight through the middle of it(the main road between the A2 and Folkestone). The garden at the back provides a haven from the road and, to be honest, the noise when in the pub itself is not noticed. We arrived on Saturday for lunch only to find a wedding reception about to take over - no problem, we ordered sandwiches and sat outside in the front garden while the guests turned up. One Cheese n Pickle, one Prawn Marie Rose. Both nicely presented with salad and chips. Couple o' beers and some nuts came to about £20. Recommended pub.

“Food not up to standard disappointing!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

Birthday meal for my husband and I ordered rib eye steak at £19.99 per head. It was like a lump of fat. Presented with a mound of grey mushrooms and onions on top. No sauce offered at all. Two other side plates with chips and salad. Was given a refund on one steak after complaining. But won't go here again. Avoid is my advice!

“Missed being excellent by niggling sloppiness”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

First, the pub was very busy with what looked like a Wake being held in the back part of the pub but that did not subtract from a very pleasant atmosphere in a traditional country pub. Second, the staff were welcoming and friendly, though they did seem to spend a lot of time chatting to what was presumably a group of locals. Third, the food was well-cooked, tasty and reasonably priced. But - the inevitable but - they got the sauces the wrong way round on the main dishes and put drinks on the bill that we hadn't had. A bit less chat and a bit more attention to detail and this could be an excellent pub.
