“Lunch at a Country Inn”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

Two friends, My Wife and Myself booked a lunch at "The Chequers Inn" Petham as it was my Birthday treat. On arrival we were greeted by the landlord and made very welcome. This is a Pub that stocks real ale as well as a range of lagers. The landlord poured us several samples of his real ale to taste. When we went to the Restaurant area we ordered our meal. We had a fairly lengthy wait for the meal as all of the food is freshly cooked. The food was very nice and quite filling. The toilets are maintained to a very good standard.Dogs are allowed in the bar area.Summing up this is a nice friendly and welcoming Country Pub with Old World charm.

Great food and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Service was friendly and slight adaptations to the menu easily accommodated. Will definitely be visiting again!

“New Chef Great Food”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Been before but they now have a new chef and wow is he good. Four of us went for dinner and of course the real ale was as good as ever with five to chose from so the evening started well and got even better when we sat down for dinner. We had boulabaise and if you closed your eyes not only did it taste of France but you could imagine you was there. The presentation and the menu from this exciting young chef is joy to behold it would not be out of place in a top London restraunt the flavours just burst in your mouth the combinations of them are so good long May he last I will be back.

“A Superb Meal”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

My wife and I ate at The Chequers some years ago and found it to be pretty average, but now, with different management, things have changed very much for the better. Seven of us - four adults and three children - booked a table for the Sunday lunchtime carvery and we certainly weren't disappointed. The service was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was faultless and the price was very reasonable, and all in a charming pub where we'd have been happy to sit and talk all afternoon.
