“Very good B&B with local attractions close by”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

Homelea B&B was a really good experience. The landlord was extremely friendly and helpful. The Breakfast was really good and really ideal as its catered to stayers to whichever time they are use to getting up. The location of Homelea seems in the middle of nowhere but it was astonishing how close everything was to pubs, shops, restaurants and tourist attractions.. (10 mins drive) If you don't have a vehicle then travelling may be a bit difficult especially in the evening. The cathedral's in Canterbury is a must, unbelievable architect.

Canterbury is a beautiful part of the country and would definitely recommend to all those who are looking for something quiet, relaxing and away from the hustle bustle.

Room Tip: All rooms are very spacious and clean.

A pleasant couple and we enjoyed their company at Homelea. For walkers there is a 6-7 min stroll to the local pub at Shalmsford Street serving good food, or a 15-20 min stroll into Chilham village (2 mins by car!) As Homelea is on the bus route going into Canterbury and Ashford, it is reasonably easy to get into town even if you dont have a car. You can be dropped off outside the door by the bus and pick the bus up over the road for your journey. A ten minute walk to the train station and if people are polite to her(!), Fiona is happy to pick guests up from the station at Chilham. A taxi firm from Canterbury (z-cars) has a good business relationship with Homelea who provides a good reliable service to the b&b.
Kindest regards
Fiona

Stayed here on 6 occasions over 3 years each for two weeks, during college course. Was perfect place to come back to in an evening, warm, clean and quiet for study and relaxing. Fiona was lovely. Can highly recommend.

We've stayed at Homelea B&B at least 5 times and every time the experience has been wonderful: Fiona and Mark are warm, down-to-earth and genuine hosts, they make us feel very welcome every time we stay, the rooms are spotless, the beds are very comfortable, the ensuite bathroom is spacious with the funkiest shower. The school room has a great view and waking up to the sound of the birds chirping and watching the chickens (the girls who very kindly later provide their eggs for a most delicious english breakfast cooked by the owner Fiona) roam around the fields is always a very pleasurable experience.
We were very surprised to find the negative comments on here as we ourselves are very satisfied returning guests and have only ever experienced consistency in quality and hospitality at this B&B.
We most certainly highly recommend a stay at Homelea B&B.

Thank you MC for your review. It is always a pleasure to see you both and rewarding to me to know that you enjoy staying at Homelea so much. Both Mark and I look foward to seeing you again when you are next in England.

We were given a very warm welcome on our arrival at Homelea, and found the atmosphere very
relaxing. We were given information about places to eat close to he b and b, and enjoyed a
nice meal at The White Horse pub in the village square at Chilham. Our room was very clean
and bed very comfortable, we had a lovely cooked breakfast . We would love to stay at the
b and b again.

Dear Pat & Derek
It was a pleasure to meet these two guests and would certainly welcome them back to Homelea. I felt honoured that they chose to celebrate their anniversary at Homelea.
Kind regards

Our daughters treated us to a Room with a View, stay at a B & B for our wedding aniversary. We chose Homelea for the view of the Downs. Kingfisher was the room we chose, and we were not disapointed. Fiona and Mark made us feel at home and at ease. The room is large with a comfortable king size bed, and the en suite bathroom was bright, clean and well decorated. Then we steped out onto the balcony to admire our view.........
Breakfast had to be the full English fry up, but there was a good choice to satisfy all tastes. The Village of Chilham has the North Downs Way passing through it, a bonus if you enjoy walking. The picture postcard Village is a must to see. A perfect base for touring the area. The next time we must book the School room, now that is a Room with a View.

Having pre booked in January the School Room we were aprehensive about staying because most previous reviews were all good and then reading the last two before we came were terrible. We enjoyed the welcoming family feeling and even felt on leaving that we had been friends for years. The room had wonderful views and furnishings and we even sat out on the balcony to get the early evening sun. The breakfast was amazing and one not to be missed. Will certainly come again.

Please be aware this hotel has a very steep staircase and also be aware that the Kingfisher Room toilet is next to the clear glass window which has a very short blind enabling anyone in the garden to have a clear view in as you do your business. Breakfast was very poor with thumb size sausages, burnt eggs and general poor cooking standards. The owner also hovered at the door to enforce the change from your shoes to indoor slippers at all times! At the £100 per night paid, it is not worth it! I chose this B&B following the other reviews and that it was given 5 stars. I must say I am unsure whether these reviews are genuine as they describe a place much different to the one I visited. Fiona was far from this polite person that others have described!

Room Tip: Do not chose the Kingfisher room!

It is true that Homelea is not suitable for disabled people. If this was an important issue, which obviously was, it should have been discussed on the telephone at the point of booking, as Fiona would have said that Homelea was not suitable. We do not have any ground floor bedrooms.
1. At point of booking it was discussed, that we do ask our guests to remove outside shoes. We have free range chickens and for hygiene reasons it helps keep our carpets and house clean, which one would think the guests would also enjoy. It was stated that it may be a good idea that they bring their slippers with them. At this point the lady commented “that’s fine we remove our outside shoes in our own house!” This too is sent out on an email confirming the reservations and along with the deposit paid and also at point of booking the guests are always told the credit & debit card charges will be passed onto the guests. Never has Fiona insisted and never will she insist that cash is to be paid. She purely gives the guest the choice of how they wish to pay.
2. The bathroom does not have a blind that is too short. It has a balcony door with a venetian blind.
3. The Shower in the school room has never been broken. Firstly the Aunt was booked into the Heron Room which is stated on the Homelea Website that it has a private bathroom and is not an ensuite room. This also was pointed out at the time of booking, but they wanted the three cheapest rooms. Fiona even gave them a discount as they wanted three rooms as singles instead of two of them sharing a twin bedded room! As the Aunt was making such a fuss about a private bathroom, Fiona showed them the School Room and stated that it was the body jet dial that was not working correctly and that the part was coming from Germany. She could use the School Room as long as she was aware of this. The Aunt was rude and still wanted an even further discount and if that could be projected as being rude to say No sorry, there is no discount on the premiere room, then that, is for one to make your own mind up.
4. The veranda (balcony) is definitely not an accident waiting to happen. The rooms are painted and marks (caused by guests!) are constantly addressed and so are the hallways, stair case etc, etc. The rooms are no way shabby. The pillows in all the rooms have pillow protectors as well as pillow cases and have two pillows to each guest being of a “bounce” pillow and also a firm pillow, allowing the guest to have a choice of the type of pillow they like!
5. The breakfast is not served in a hall!! It is an open plan dining room. The cereals are never out of date and are served in glass containers, so where the guests are even getting this from, one does not know. Coffee is not served stewed and is made to order in caffitiers, but in fact the niece asked for instant coffee so how this could be stewed, it is not known. Fiona does not have instant coffee, apart from the sachets used for the guest rooms.
6. Breakfast is not served to a poor standard, this is very offensive.
7. The treetops room is on a saniflow as it is in the original part of the house. This is not un normally noisy. The niece said that her daughter had a saniflow at home and was aware of what could be put down the toilet. Homelea is not a new house built 1930`s and many older houses are on sani flows.
