“Food not as good as the building”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

A superb looking historic building. Lunchtime food was very ordinary and uninspired but cheap. Furnishings and presentation let down the atmosphere. Couldn't it be run with more panache?

“Lovely old pub, standard pub grub”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

This is a lovingly restored 15th century building in the centre of the village. At lunchtime on a weekday it was quite full and busy, but not noisy. The service was pleasant and competent if a bit slow. The food was unremarkable - steaks, pies, fish and chips - but well cooked and generous quantities. Good coffee. Overall, a pleasant place for lunch, and we'll probably go again some time - for the ambience as much as the menu.

“Good food”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

This pub has great character. The food was excellent and not expensive. We had our favourite scollops. Beautifully cooked and presented. The staff were friendly. There was a cosy fire which was greatly appreciated, making the whole evening a great pleasure.

“A first class family lunch.”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

On arrival we were very pleased that we had booked a table as the restaurant was full and people were constantly being turned away. Despite being very busy the service was first class and both the waitresses were very attentitive. It was a Saturday lunch time and the menu was very varied and reasonably priced. The food was first class and we were just sorry we couldn't finish it or sample the puddings as we were all so full. Will definitely return soon as the Sunday lunch has also been highly reccommended.

“Excellent Food, Massive portions!”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

Before we went to the Artichoke we were warned that the portion sizes were big but thought i would treat myself to a starter anyway - i had battered brie and the amount of food that came out was like a very large lunch rather than a starter! It tasted so delicious though that i had to finish. Then came the main course (I had one of the specials which was scallops in a bacon and blue cheese sauce), which again was massive. The food was amazing, but due to the size of the starter I could hardly touch my main and I had no room for dessert (very unlike me!!). Also there was hardly anytime between them taking away our starter dishes and presenting us with our mains so we had no time to let the starters go down, however really enjoyed our visit here. The pub has got some really lovely log fires and feels like a proper country pub.
