I recently visited this restaurant as part of a winery tour through Nemea with Greece2Taste. I think we were all ready to eat after 2 winery visits each with their own tastings :)

Greece2Taste had arranged everything, so we didn't even have the hassle of deciding what to eat. They knew to bring us dishes that went perfectly with the wine.. or is it the other way around? HA!

We started with a few different salads and then a hot appetizer of egglant and tomato sauce with melted cheese. For mains I really enjoyed a beef dish that was served with wine sauce and there was also kokkoras krasatos (rooster with wine sauce) being passed around- but I was too full by that time. For dessert we had a custard with a wine reduction sauce and it was just perfect.

After visiting Gaia winery for a tour (another must) we were recommended to try Sofos for lunch. It's hard to find for it does not have an address and it sits on a corner next to a tiny plaza (but put Nemea on your google maps app and once there ask anyone on the street for general directions). Well worth the visit. We went there with greek friends who certified that the cuisine was both authentic and excellent. I had the grape leaves lamb roll appetizer and a rooster in a red cinnamon and clove sauce for the main dish. Both were flavorful and fabulous. The wine list has an extensive collection of white and red wines some of which are not generally available outside Nemea. Prices are very reasonable. Having stayed in Greece for over two weeks, this place has been one of the best.

Nemea is one of the most important wine regions in Greece with astonishing landscapes, however it lacks tourist infrastructure. It is wonderful place to visit however you need to plan your visit ahead and make sure that wineries are expecting you. On that note we were advised that the only restaurant in town is Sofos.

We went during the Nemea wine days and we were astonished. Great Greek dishes prepared according to traditional recipes along with modern twists. The restaurant was fantastic and we will definitely visit again.

The wine list is well prepared, including rare local wines. We were told by the owner that they will develop a wine cellar and they will extend their wine list. I would like to see how this will evolve.

That said Sofos is the one and only choice for fine dinning that will definitely let you satisfied.
