If you do the island thing, i.e. Murano and Burano, be sure and include Torcello. Not only is it rich in the history of the beginnings of the La Serenissma Repubblica di San Marco (Venice), it also has a superb restaurant, Ristorante Villa 600. After exploring the church of Santa Maria Assunta, we happened upon Villa 600 for lunch. What a gem! A table outside under an awning with service that was attentive without being smothering. Our waiter recommened a soave from the Veneto region that was a nice accompaniment to the cheese and spinach ravioli with pisstachio sauce that I ordered. If you can find time for Torcello and Villa 600, you will not be disappointed.
