We spent a splendid afternoon in Hillside. Animals seemed to be very happy and well looked after. Even though some visitors would love to see animals from close, it is good to know they are not kept in small enclosures all the time but can enjoy freedom of being free in open spaces.
We loved it so much that we adopted two goats. Wish we could come more often, but it is a 6 hour journey for us. If we find ourselves in North Norfolk, we will definitely visit again.

This is a wonderful place to visit, but remember that the animals come first, which is how it should be. Getting to stroke the gentle giants is very therapeutic. Hillside do tremendous work for all sorts of animals, including farm animals. I thoroughly enjoyed myself there.

This is a wonderfully relaxing place to visit. Lots of extremely happy and friendly animals (mostly rescued). There is a good café (vegan).
It is important to remember that this is an animal sanctuary - it is not primarily a tourist/visitor site. The welfare of the animals comes first. This explains why one visitor was unhappy not to see the shires and other heavy horses in the stables for part of the day - the horses in the stables go out into the fields for an hour from around 1pm.
I cannot praise Hillside enough for the wonderful work they do and for this lovely place. Do go and make any extra donation if you can as it must cost a fortune to feed the animals and care for them so well.

We visited this place for the first time although we had been to North Norfolk loads of times. Bit disappointed there weren't more horses to see close up but it's done amazingly and it was very obvious that all the animals (and there are several) are very well cared for. The runs and paddocks etc were all very very clean and what was especially good was a note by each stable or run explaining why the animals were there and where they came from. Took my husband and brother in law who aren't very "horsey" but there was plenty of things for them to look at too. Definitely recommend this to anyone. Well done.

We visited Hillside's Shire Horse Sanctuary for the second time last week and enjoyed it as much as our first visit a couple of years ago. It is lovely to see so many different rescued animals who are lucky enough to have a home for life at Hillside. Great gift shop and very friendly and helpful staff. We had lunch in the café and really enjoyed our sandwiches and scones. There is something for everyone to enjoy and it is good to visit and support Hillside who carry out such good work.
