The Laiya beach is one of the beaches you can go to in case you need that spur-of-the-moment dose of sun and sand. Around 3 hours drive from Manila depending on how quick you can get out of the city traffic this place has a pretty decent beach area good for any backpacker. Other than hang around beach and get a tan there is not much to do here in terms of watersports. If you plan on coming here for diving it's best to bring your own equipment. I also can't guarantee if the reef is any good but from the surface the water looked clear. Small resorts dot the side of the beach which can be good or bad depending on how you see it but you definitely won't run out of options in case you need a place to stay for the night.

Average beach in San Juan, Batangas. The water is not clear maybe because we went there after the typhoon. The sand is not that fine and there were lots of rocks. The beach is clean and there were some star fishes, crabs, shrimp and sea urchins. If you want a place that is near from manila where you can relax with the family go to Laiya.

We traveled by car to this resort which was about 2 hours from the start of the south expressway and thru the new Star Toll Expressway. There were 6 of us, 5 adults and one kid, my niece. Since it was mid part of June, there were not so many visitors as it was already the start of classes. We looked for a cottage that would provide us with an air-conditioned room for our family and our own toilet and bathroom, plus our own kitchen and dining table including gas stove, ref, mineral water dispenser and cooking and eating utensils. We were provided with one and with a little extra. We had a tv with cable outside of the room. We stayed there for 3 days 2 nights. We were given a discount because there weren't too many guests at that time. Anyway, there was a kiddie pool, where my niece enjoyed swimming, and the beach, which was not as welcoming because of the waves which sometimes make me dizzy but it was clean, however. I cooked the dishes along with my other daughter and we enjoyed eating as it was more practical to cook than going to the restaurant which were a bit expensive for us. We even got to see the "talipapa" (informal wet market) where we bought some meat, spices, and fish and had them barbecued which we enjoyed for the rest of our stay. It was tiring for me but it was well worth it as it bonded our family more. There was just a little problems about missing plastic covered cups and toys because the place was open at sea This was no big deal actually because those were just cheap toys. Some poor kid may have enjoyed them. No problem for us. We left on the third day exhausted but we enjoyed our stay.
