Description: The Forest Inn is a traditional pub in the New Forest, serving home cooked food and an excellent range of real ales, lagers, ciders and wine. There are stunning views of the New Forest National Park from our beer garden and a large log fire in our lounge area to warm yourself by in the winter.

Went on a quiet weekday, only three more tables in use. Ordered an omelette with four fillings. Then waited 45 minutes until it came out, no explanation to length of time. Then chap decided the order was wrong, even though was just two of us and we ordered the same fillings! Then waited another 15 minutes, so in total took one hour for two omelettes! The chips had obviously been kept warm as very unpleasant, although omelette was very tasty, shame. Then only after we complained we got an apology, well blaming the chef. To finish the dining experience, the woman ran out after us saying we hadn't paid!!!! Would never go back there again.

We went there today and must say it was very good.
We had a light lunch and chose a few starters to make up our lunch which included Baked camembert, whitebait, bread and dips and onion rings. The food was fresh and very tasty.

The bread was soft and tasty, the camembert was gooey and perfect. The whitebait cam with a nice tartare sauce. But just to show they are doing things right we had PROPER beer battered onion rings. NOT rubbish packet ones but lovely crispy fresh made ones.

They talked you through the menu which also included have size meals if you wanted a lighter lunch or if you dont have a big appetite, what a great touch.

The staff were friendly and attentive. It was a good price and there was a nice fire with some sofas to sit on while we waited.

A really lovely little pub. Certainly recommend.

This is a very old pub; the previous time I visited (some years ago) it was OK but not impressive. It was completely refurbished a year or two ago and has new management so we though we would try it out.

We visited on spec on a Sunday evening in November and managed to get the last available table. We were told that there would be a wait of 20 minutes as a party was in. No problems, the pub had six real ales to choose from. It also gave us time to choose from the standard menu and extensive specials board (which was predominately fish).

The starters were generous. My sardines were perfect, with crispy salty skin, tender flesh and with a home-made tomato salsa and salad. The main courses were also generous, to the extent that none of us felt like a dessert. My poachers pie was stuffed with various game; the pastry was just right. The vegetables were well-cooked and suited the dish. Service was prompt but not pushy, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing.

To top it all, with two rounds of drinks and two courses, the bill came to only £21 per head.

We will be returning!

(As usual, my gradings are based on what one would expect of this style of place.)

The service and food here used to be excellent but has been below par the last few visits. One visit we waited ages for our food and got no apology or explanation.

We went to The Forest Inn for lunch to celebrate my son`s birthday. this is the 2nd time I have eaten there. What a great place, the staff are so friendly nothing too much trouble, and the food was excellant. two of the party were vegetarian, plenty of selection for them. The special menu was excellant. I will go again and take friends knowing I can`t go wrong.
