“Badly organised Christmas Barn”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

We visited this just before Christmas and according to the farms' website it was 'just turn up' no booking required. When we arrived there was a sign saying an hour wait but as we had travelled some distance and had an excited 7 year old in tow, decided to wait. An hour passed and we weren't even anywhere near the pay desk. The queue just didn't move. Took nearly 2 hours to get inside the barn itself then the queue came to a complete standstill for ages. Our 7 year old started to feel very faint and sick because of having to stand for so long and although she tried to hang on, we had to leave in the end. A lot of people like us were just giving up and turning round and there were a lot of fidgety upset children. A complete waste of money and morning for us. Admitted it was the Sunday before Christmas but no way was this organised well, the queue should have been constantly moving. They should have anticipated this and organised it much better as it is a great idea. A booking system should be used for future years. I did write and express my disappointment to the farm but there wasn't even an acknowledgement from them so obviously they couldn't care less. They had a lot of disappointed children there that day and no doubt it was the same on other days. We won't be ever visiting there again in the summer let alone Christmas and will be advising our friends nt to either.

We always welcome constructive comments at Longdown Activity Farm and do our best to act upon the comments made, our Christmas Barn has built a reputation of being a wonderful experience for children and adults alike, the experience is not simply a visit to see Father Christmas but includes being in close contact with all the animals within the barn, there are tables where children can draw and other areas where they could dress up, seasonal music playing combined with the festive spirit created by the excited children and the Farm's staff, and of course Father Christmas spends time listening to each child, who eagerly tells him which present they would like to be given on Christmas Eve, obviously this all takes a little time to fit in, I accept that there was a wait on busy days (as all our publicity states) however the sign indicating an hour wait to enter the barn was very accurate, the wait within the barn could vary depending on the time spent by each family meandering their way through, and valuable quality time spent with Father Christmas, as not every family was in a rush to the exit! Some families did leave the queue and spoke to our staff who agreed for them to come back a little later in the afternoon, which most of our visitors greatly appreciated, booking systems work for commercial enterprises, however Longdown Activity Farm will continue operating as the majority of our visitors are happy in the way that we operate. However we do value your comments and will consider them on our planning for next years Christmas Barn.

“Great activities but no tractor :-(”
Reviewed October 31, 2013 via mobile

We visited with a 2 and 4 year old. Everyone had a great time and loved getting hands on with the animals. We gave been twice before but found on this occasion the tractor ride not working. We were told due to the bad weather, although it was a dry day the field was wet...and it was a tractor after all! I suspect it was saving a few quid as this was the last week of the season.
We had a packed lunch so cannot comment on the food.

The animals all looked well cared for and were clean. We will be back as again.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the activities at Longdown Activity Farm and sorry to hear of your disappointment at there being no tractor ride, yes tractors are designed to plough through mud and all types of terrain, however there are very strict guidelines given by Health and Safety and our insurers where there are passengers involved and they wouldn't be too pleased if I took the trailer around the field splatting the passengers with mud and doing broadsides along the track, yes it would be fun, but also very dangerous!
We hope that you enjoy your next visit.

“Good for kids!”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Very much enjoyed feeding the goats! Went on the school holidays though so it was pretty busy!! Again, i went with friends.. not with children. But i don't see why as adults we should miss out on petting cute animals! So i'm reviewing it based on if adults might want to go without children..

There were some very cute animals around, although most of them you couldn't pet. Us being bigger and taller, were able to stretch over the barriers and stroke them :)
There's also a nice play area for the children, which we also enjoyed!

Altogether, i'd say its worth going with children.. but as just adults, it's quite pricey for what's on offer to do there. Cholderton is cheaper and more to pet there.

“Fantastic family day out!!!”
Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

During our family holiday in the New Forest we decided to visit Longdown Activity Farm. My children are 2 and 6 months old and was a fantastic day out for them. We arrived shortly after the farm opened and helped pick some eggs which chickens had freshly laid. There was a different activity every 30 mins which was perfect for keeping the kids entertained. There was baby goat feeding, animal encounters where my daughter held a 10 day old chick and stroked some rabbits and helped groom a goat. She also helped feed pigs, adult goats and went on a tractor ride. Inbetween all these activities there is a lovely play area, a soft play centre for them rainy days and trampolines to keep your little ones entertained! The staff are also very friendly and helpful!
Excellent family day out and value for money, we will be returning!
