“An Outstanding Bed & Breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

This outstanding B&B guest house is to be found in Burley in the New Forest. Janet and John are wonderful hosts and had a pot of tea and home made cake ready to welcome us on arrival. Our family room was splendid - beautifully furnished with a large comfortable double bed and single bed with a small bath in the ensuite, ideal for a child. The shower and toilet were kept spotlessly clean and toiletries were replaced daily. Breakfast was magnificent - as eat much as you like from a large and varied choice, freshly cooked full English breakfast delivered straight from the kitchen. Special breakfasts such as scrambled egg with smoked salmon, haddock and other specialities are available at no extra cost as long as you order your choice the day before. The bread, marmalade and preserves etc are homemade as is the honey which comes from the hives in the back garden. Everything is faultless!

Room Tip: The family room we stayed in was ideal for a family of three and aroom with a four poster bed is als...

Throughout our 4-night stay, Janet and John were always very friendly and made us feel at home in their lovely house. They gave us a warm welcome with tea and cakes on arrival. Our room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. It had a 4-poster bed (not queen sized!) The en suite included a spacious shower with plenty of hot water.

Breakfast was really something to look forward to, with cereals, fresh fruit salad and either a full English cooked breakfast or specials such as smoked salmon and scrambled egg (highly recommended).

There is a lounge downstairs for guests to use, and wifi is provided (this works better downstairs than upstairs). The garden is lovely and well-maintained, and there are ample parking spaces just in front of the house.

Burley is well located for visiting the New Forest, and is also not far from the ferry to the Isle of Wight, which makes a good day out.

Every year we take my Mum and Dad away instead of buying them birthday and Christmas presents and this year they asked to go to the New Forrest .As usual I set about checking the reviews on Tripadvisor. It came down to two in the end and I am so glad I picked Wayside cottage.
We turned up about 4.00pm and was greeted at the door by Janet who showed us to our rooms and offered us a very welcome cup of tea. After putting our cases in the rooms we met back down in the wonderful garden to find a pot of very good tea along with some beautiful home made cakes.
We had a chat with Janet and then met her husband John and there two lovely Dashounds.
The weather was lovely and we sat in the garden for a good hour before getting ready to go fo a stroll.
The cottage is lovely the rooms are spacious and in tip top condition as are the bathrooms. Mums has a shower and ours has a bath with a very good shower in it. There is good coffee and tea in the rooms very nice toiletries in the bathroom and a selection of books to read. The beds are very good quality as is the furniture. Downstairs is a comfortable lounge and a nice breakfast room.
That brings me onto breakfast wow what a selection. There is fresh fruit , cereal home made bread, home produced honey , marmalade and jams and one of the best full English breakfasts I have had in a long time. There are also various fish dishes you can have if you order the night before, no one could have any complaints about this breakfast. This is all served by the cheery John who has great local knowledge and is more than happy to share it with you.
All in all the nicest b&b we have stayed in and we have stayed in a few. In the words of Arnie "We will be back"
Ps it is on a quite gravel back road so no noise unless you get a excited New Forrest pony running by. Also it is only 5 mins walk into Burley or the Forrest

Room Tip: All the ones we saw were nice but we stayed in number 4

Stayed 4 nights at Wayside Cottage with my elderly mother and couldn't fault a thing.
Warm welcome from Janet followed by tea and cakes. We were given a downstairs twin room which was superb - soft beds with fluffy quilts, bathroom with warm towels. Breakfast was heavenly - as much as you wanted and plenty of choice. Janet and John were excellent hosts.

Just came back from our short stay (2nights) at wayside cottage and can not say a bad word about it.
The room was perfect for a couple sharing. Massive queen size bed, comfy pillows and duvets, tea facilities in the room, freeview tv, big fluffy warm towels, heated bathroom, big bath/shower and a hair dryer!.
Was greeted down stairs for breakfast by the owner and there little dogs. You won't get a better breakfast in the whole of new forest there's everything you could possibly ask for and you can eat as much as you like! Full English, salmon, haddock. Cereals, granola, yogurt, homemade bread, homemade spreads.
Overall a 5 star stay!!

We had a two night stay, very friendly from the moment we arrived, the room was clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was lovely, home made jams, honey and bread which is a lovely touch. The cooked breakfast was really nice. We will definitely be coming back.

We stayed with friends for four days over the Easter holiday. We were made so very welcome at this charming Edwardian cottage. Janet and John care for your every need, from the copious breakfasts to leaving torches our for dark evening walks up the lanes. Crisp white sheets and luxuriously comfy beds make the stay restful too. The owners know their area very well, with best places to visit /eat, but cosy nights in at the cottage with a glass of wine and a pack of cards was just as relaxing. Would recommend this wonderful B and B to anyone wanting a pleasant stay in the beautiful New Forest, and look forward to returning one day ourselves.

Room Tip: If you have a disability they have several beautiful ground floor rooms with step in showers.
