This is my favourite pit stop when I make my annual pilgrimage to Edgware each year. It is small and beautiful with its bright facade and gorgeous hanging baskets of flowers! The low ceilings and wood panelling inside give the place a cosy, comfortable and olde worlde atmosphere, almost like that of a historic country pub.

Being thirsty after a walk from St. Lawrence's Churchyard in nearby Whitchurch Lane, I ordered a pint of Stella Artois and duly relaxed and studied the menu. Food is served from 12 noon onwards. The meal deals on offer are fantastic value but, just wanting something light, I opted for the chicken and bacon salad with a side order of brown bread and butter. Beautifully presented and very tasty - I washed it down with a vodka and Tia Maria on the rocks to finish. The service was impeccable.

Lovely Samantha who was on duty behind the bar was very friendly and helpful and the Manager was also very sociable and well informed when I asked him about the closure of the nearby "Masons Arms" pub. More welcome spin-off business for the "Change of Hart" methinks!

This is a very family friendly establishment. Indeed, while I was enjoying my lunch, two families with young children took over the main booth. That was an entertainment in itself.

Followers of Euro 2012 were well catered for with televisions strategically placed for evening drinkers/diners. There is also a pool table in a separate room to the rear of the pub.

The ladies toilets were an experience! Notices adorned the walls and doors to remind patrons that the management operates a strict zero tolerance policy on drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Anybody caught would be banned from the pub for life. Presumably the same warnings appear in the gents' toilets.

My only observation about this pub is that there is too much brown - especially in the toilets! A little light paint, say white or cream would give the loos a lift and brighten them up a bit, if not give more of an impression of space.

I would highly recommend this little gem for its friendly welcome and great value food and drink.
