“Great food”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

I've been drinking here for about the past 17 years and it has been consistently good. I used to work in Uxbridge and have used the place lunchtime afternoon and night, if your around at lunchtime and hungry, this is the place to go. The food is excellent, home-cooked pies and stews, salads and giant sarnies. Very good value and delicious. What a shame they don't have food in the evening.
On a personal touch I found out 3 generations of my great uncles and grandfathers (the Buckingham's) owned the pub from the 1820's up to the 1900's My inheritance as far as they owned the land where the old coca cola building stands has gone though! It brings a new meaning to family run pub.
There's a nice conservatory where the coaches used to enter and a decent smoking area out back with on street seating if you like people gazing. Oh the beers good too.
Overall its probably the best pub in Uxbridge, not including the Swan & Bottle.

Reviewed July 31, 2013

Lovely pub, great staff and reasonable bar prices...
They show lives sports... Seating is a little awkward towards the back as kept feeling like i was in the way everytime someone passed to use the toilets but all good other then that.

“Lovely home cooked reasonbly priced lunches!”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

Went for lunch with a friend. Dishes are not bought to the table which puts some folks off, but on the plus side you can see everything availble in the counter and make an informed choice. And we were spoiled for choice! There was a steak and ale pie, pork casserole, beef bourgignon, lasagne and a chicken in a creamy sauce. All fresh and home made! So rare to find these days. And you can have whatever you like with them, whatever you order. No rigid rules on what comes with what. Choice of chips, mash, roast spuds or jacket and rice plus fresh veg. Onyl cost 4.95, I had the pie and my friend the pork casserole. We were both very pleased with our meal.

It's the nicest pub in Uxbridge in my opinion, clean, nice old surroundings and friendly staff. Good beer too. No complaints whatsoever. Just a shame they don't do fresh food in evenings. Although they have a menu, it's eaither the reheated leftovers from lunch or pre cooked meals.

“This place has changed”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

I can remember when this pub was a working class dive! It's a great place to have a quiet drink or a meal at any time of the day or night now. It's not dear and the pub grub is fine.
