“Perfect night's sleep following a wonderful meal”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We chose The Brownlow as a stop off on our way back up North mainly because our family came from the village during the 1800's and we wanted to visit the Loveden area to see where they lived and worked. The meal was first class and the restaurant was very busy even though it was midweek which is a very good sign. The rooms were immaculate and the beds so comfortable we actually missed breakfast, something we've never done before!

I booked this through a search on another web site as I was pressed for time and didn't have a chance to read Trip Advisor reviews as usual. No need to worry - it was an excellent choice. We stayed in the new block which was clean, spacious and at £98 per room including two plentiful breakfasts represented very good value indeed. Breakfast on the terrace would have been even nicer but for the rather agricultural scent emitted from the fields on the other side of the road - but this is the country so what should I expect.......
We had dinner in the hotel on the first night - food was good quality but, if I have any quibble at all, it is that the prices were London prices and this is the middle of Lincolnshire. Portion sizes perhaps slightly on the small side as well. However, food arrived promptly, staff were pleasant and helpful and old country house style furnishings were very much to my taste.
Also, another minor point, use of the phrase "Chef Oliver Snell" on the blurb about the restaurant makes it sound more like an American Reality Show than a country pub in the UK - please.
We used this as a base to spend most of Saturday at a birthday party for a friend rather than rush up and down the motorway in one day. It turned that celebration into a most relaxing and pleasant weekend - would certainly come again.

We booked an early supper for Friday evening and had a wonderful time. We had a drink in the bar while we chose our food, the wine was superb and the black sheep was the best Philip had tasted for a long while. The food arrived promptly, I tried the grilled Ray wing which was delicious and Philip had the Rack of Lamb which was also superb. For dessert Philip had the chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and honeycome ice cream and I had the Peanut butter parfait. Both good choices. It won't be long before we visit again.

We booked here 1 day before travelling due to problems with other accommodation we had booked elsewhere. Thankfully there was a room available & the landlady was so friendly we were really looking forward to arriving.
It is situated in a small village in the middle of nowhere and is so pretty on the approach.
The main building is dated in the late 1800's and is so beautifully decorated and planned out.
We were taken to our room, when walking through a door into what we thought was another hallway, it was actually our room, it had an immaculate en-suite with a small landing area which led to the bedroom complete with a small television area. We were in room 1.
The service from telephoning to book through to our evening meal, breakfast & checkout was so relaxed yet completely professional. The restaurant downstairs is more 'a la carte' with a mixed menu including several fish, meat & poultry dishes, the waitresses are friendly & helpful, we had a lovely meal in a lovely environment which also benefited from children under the age of 10 not being permitted.
The landlady was so welcoming & really made us feel at home.
For breakfast served 8:30-9:45 there was a choice of cereals, yogurt as well as a full English, it was delicious.
Overall, it is well worth the price & we cannot wait to return, we really didn't want to go home!

Room Tip: Room 1 is great as it doesn't have rooms either side so no neighbourly noise. On the other hand...

Luckily got a table on Sunday for lunch. Lovely meal, naturally I suppose, it was a roast choice but very tasty if you are happy with limited menu. We will certainly go back and try another day/evening to test the menu further. Lovely attentive staff. Not particularly cheap but 3-course best value. Many thanks, see you again.

This was our 2nd visit, previously we went for a Sunday lunch and this time it was the day after our wedding and decided to have a nice evening meal and stay the night and then we met friends their for a Sunday lunch.

Every time they have exceeded my expectations. Room was very pleasant, nice bathroom, tv/DVD. Only slight drawback was the room we were in didn't have a bath however not enough to affect this review.

However what we come here for is the food and it is fantastic every time, I can't recommend it enough. Yes it's expensive but I feel I get more value for money out of one good meal here a posed to two average ones elsewhere.

We will definitely be going back!

We visited the restaurant on a busy Friday evening. It was booked last minute but they managed to fit us in!! It's a nice place, full of character and charm. They menu is good with enough choice and the wine list is reasonable too!! The food was extremely good and the service was fine too. The only criticism is that the table we were placed at was in a busy walk through and we were continually interrupted with various different people walking by.
