“Wrap up warm!”
Review of Snaefell

Very good - make sure you pick a clear day with good visibility - you can see England, Scotland and Ireland then. Part of fascination is the little train ride up - sit on right hand side for the best views. Train driver slows down for you to get good pictures of The Laxey Wheel.
Little café at the top sells drinks and food - very friendly, efficient staff. You can also have a postcard sent by "rail" with special stamps from here.
We visited on what was a warm sunny day in July down below - but was blustery and cold at the top. Many just ran into the café - which was a shame as it's no distance to the summit!

We wanted to go up Snaefell and had no car and no desire to walk, so the tram served us very well. The ride up is quite scenic but the view from the top is terrific. As other reviewers have noted, it can change quickly, but fortunately on our day the clouds lifted while we were at the summit. There was a recorded commentary on the return journey which added lots of useful information. Fare covered by the excellent Island Explorer.

On day one of the best views in the British Isles on a bad day no view at all, 2,036 ft. up in the middle of the Irish sea on the isle of Man's only mountain Snaefell they say you can see Seven Kingdoms those being England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man and the kingdoms of heaven and the sea. On a bad day you are lucky to see your hand in front of your face.

The best way or the easiest way to get there is on the electric railway which dates back to the 1890s, the journey takes about half an hour each way, make you sure you take something warm it can be a very cold and breezy at the summit.

When you get to the top there is a cafe and toilets which you may wish to make use of before you return.

Great journey, Great view

A wonderful journey on the Snaefell mountain railway, the views as it climbs to the top are spectacular and once at the top simply stunning (providing the weather is good but the weather can change within a few minutes from thick cloud to clear skies and vice versa). Do take a cardigan/jacket/coat (even on the warmest day as its very exposed at the top and could be a little chilly). There is a very good restaurant at the top serving tea, coffee, cake and lots of lovely cooked food - it really has improved since last year. Plenty of staff so the queues are not too long, staff really helpful and its very very clean. Definitely well worth a visit.

If you visit the Isle of Man and don't take a trip up Snaefell on the mountain railway then you really are missing out!

On a clear day, the views are spectacular! Wrap up warm though because it can be extremely cold and windy at that sort of altitude. I saw a number of unprepared people shivering uncontrollably in their t-shirts and shorts when we went up on a lovely sunny day in June!

The cafe at the top is rather overpriced for the quality of food on offer but I suppose they do have somewhat of a monopoly up there and do the best to exploit it.
