Visited for an evening stock car meeting at the raceway, which is part of the park. A crowd of about 500, many school-age teens, enjoyed the action, though by mainland standards I found it rather tame. The fields for each formula - F2 stocks, nudge-and-spin bangers, prod rods and ministox - were on the small side. The track is a 400m tarmac oval. Decent evening out, though, and something a bit different for many visitors to the Isle of Man. Onchan Raceway, opened as a velodrome in 1951, has staged stock car racing since 1969. The facilities are a little on the tatty side, but no worse than most in this budget motor sport.
