“Nice old French Cathedrale”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

As Cathedrales go this one is old but not particularly outstanding. However the cloisters have a tranquil atmosphere with tombs dating back to the 15th century. The walled city is listed as amongst the most beautiful towns in France. It has some lovely features but you'll need a brochure from the tourist office to find and appreciate them. Of course the tourist office takes typically long French lunchtimes. If you turn up when it is shut take a long lunch in the tearooms across the square.
The guided tours of the village and Cathedrale are recommended as you'll get to see things that are hidden from public view.

“Light a candle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

At over 1000 years old, you can really feel the history. Don't miss the carvings in the cloisters, glimpse the enchanting treasure room and ancient murals. Try and spot the carved roman stones that were 'recycled' on the outside of the octagonal tower. Light a candle, and remember the people who have worshiped here, and still worship a thousand years on.

“Glad I visited”

This is one of those places that am glad I visited but for me lacked the wow factor - I think the guide books I read made me think it was going to be extraordinary and for me it wasnt.

“Cathdrale Saint-Lizier”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

The Cathedral is a beautiful example of a 500 year old church hidden away in a charming village. I would reccommend a walk around the streets and a visit to the abbey at the top of the hill (admission required). There is a tourist office on the Place d'leglise next to the Church with a very helpful staff and information. If you are in the area this is a perfect activity for an afternoon, Nearby Saint-Girons is a marvelous town worth exploring also, it is not at all touristy but full of typical boulangeries, wine caves, and even a Orange store if you need to work out cell phone or internet problems.
