The pizza restaurant portion of this hostel was closed when I was there – boo and weep! The hostel itself was also pretty empty as the Christmas rush hadn’t descended yet. I shared the dorm (a tight 8 bunks) with one other person. The washroom for the dorms is also shared with a compartido, bringing the users of one bano to 10, which is a bit high, in my opinion, but not a problem while I was there.
The hostel is right across the street from the beach, beside a little grocery store, another restaurant and the usually-open pizza restaurant. Cannot comment on the quality of the pizza but the price of a bed in the dorm and a pizza are the same.
The hostel was fine – probably a hipper vibe when there are guests staying there and the restaurant is open. For the most part I found the place clean and welcoming and the lockers were a good size.
The hostel could use more ... reading material and information on what to do/where to go in Manzanillo. Maybe some games - it's just a bit... boring compared to other hostels that have libraries and other neat stuff to keep travellers occupied and talking on quiet Caribbean nights.
Other than that, my only “con” is that the fridge in the common kitchen is far to small for a potential 15-odd guests and the garbage cans in the kitchen, but especially in the shared washroom, need to be emptied far more often.
Otherwise, a positive experience at Funky Manza. Thanks, Simon. Keep up the good work!
