“Charming house and hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

We have been staying with our 4 children in this place for a two days week-end. We highly recommend this beautifull place for the very nice welcoming of the hosts who provide with kindness the best service you can dream of. The hosts have restored this old farm only few years ago so everything is clean and beautifull. We recommend the table d'hote which guarantee a very good quality full course menu prepared by the hosts with local selected products (better than most of the restaurants and for a cheap price). Tennis court and swimming pool in the park...higly recommended. Very friendly and best value !

Very charming house in a perfect set up in the middle of the vineyards. The rooms are very bright, clean and quiet. The hosts are very nice and welcoming! The breakfast by the pool was also fantastic! I definitely recommend this hotel for people looking to spend a calm week end and relax in the magnificent region of Toulouse.

An 18th century farmhouse, in the middle of nowhere, but equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Surrounded by a beautiful park, this place features a tennis court and a beautiful swimming pool. Rooms are nice, with modern, well equipped bathrooms. Breakfast is top for a continental breakfast, with orange juice, fruit salad, self-made bread and croissant, and coffee/tea/cocoa to chose from (if you expect an American breakfast, France is the wrong country to go to - but may be you can negotiate..... The owner, Patricia, is a middle-aged lady, very nice and extremely well organized, she speaks English well.

We loved the place, and the value-for-money relationship. It is close to Albi, a city anyone will love, for the cathedral and scenic streets (and good shopping, too). If ever you come to the area, make a reservation at the Bastide de Servadou, and you will not be disappointed. Note it is a rural area, you won't find much nightlife.

Two years ago, when we visited the Loire Valley in France, we stayed in a lovely B&B (Chateau des Ormeaux), and really enjoyed the experience. This trip, we were heading South to the Toulouse /Galliac area, and although friends urged us to find a hotel in Toulouse, we really wanted to stay off the beaten track. After hunting around through a myriad of websites listing numerous B & B’s in the area, we got a recommendation for La Bastide de Servadou, between Galliac and Albi. After exchanging e-mails with Patricia De Zogheb Ouvré, the owner, we booked our room and crossed our fingers.

La Bastide de Servadou is located about 45 minutes from Toulouse, and about 15 minutes from Galliac. It’s nestled among the vineyards of Galliac, in a very lovely country setting. The house was built in 1833; Patricia has owned it since 2000. The property offers a swimming pool, tennis courts, a nice garden, and a pleasant outdoor patio where we spent several evenings relaxing with a book or some beads (my wife makes jewelry). Our favorite denizen of La Bastide was ZigZag, Patricia’s dog. He was quite the “social animal!”

The property offers 5 rooms, each tastefully done, each with a private bath. The rooms are quite comfortable, and very spacious. We peeked in the others when we arrived, as we were the only guests on our first night. Patricia had almost a full house on the other nights. I was very surprised at how nice and cool the house was, even when it was quite warm outside. We slept each night with our windows open, enjoying a cool breeze, and woke each morning to chirping birds and ZigZag exploring the garden.

The rooms are on the second floor. The first floor is comprised of the dining room, kitchen, and large living room, with a fireplace, TV, and plenty of chairs and couches on which to relax. Each morning, Patricia prepares a tasty, simple breakfast with fresh bread, local jams and honey, and fresh fruit, and lots of excellent coffee. There are several tables in the dining room, so if you’re social and like to chat with other guests, you can do that, or if you prefer a little privacy, that’s manageable as well. We had great fun talking with Patricia about the house and the area each morning.

The grounds are quite lovely. As I mentioned, we spent all but one evening sitting outside chatting with Patricia or just relaxing. ZigZag loves to chase his tennis ball, which I was more than happy to throw for him. It was quite pleasant to wander about the grounds, and check out the vineyard next door.

We also appreciated Patricia’s knowledge of the area – it really made our trip much more enjoyable. We visited Carcassonne and Albi on our first day, but weren’t quite sure about other places to visit. We asked her for some suggestions she gave us some great ideas for what turned out to be a really delightful part of our trip: Castelnau, Puycelsi, Bruniquel, and the market at St. Antoine. She has good knowledge of the area, and provided lots of “insider info” as to the community and region that we were visiting.

Our first night, we had dinner at at Lou Cantoun, a restaurant she recommended in nearby Cestayrols – about 10 minutes from the house. The food was very good. The next night, we had a great meal at Le Clos St. Cecile, in Albi, but after that, we quite enjoyed a quiet “French” dinner at the chateau, with bread, wine, cheese, and fruit we bought locally.

Fellow travelers, I cannot recommend La Bastide de Servidou highly enough! If you’re planning to journey to the Albi or Galliac area, you should really consider giving Patricia a call!
