“Lovely B&B”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2014

Had a beautiful stay here in Jan '11. room was cosy and warm and the view of the river was beautiful. The owners were lovely and very hospitable, our train was delayed a few hours (close to 11pm we arrived) but Frank still came and picked us up with a smile. The only thing that stopped me rating a perfect 10 was getting lectured on smoking by one of the owners when we ran into them up the road. Made me feel uncomfortable. Besides that I had a fantastic stay and would definitely love another one of Frank's home cooked brekkies!

We are currently still in this b n b .......... don't want to leave ! Service fantastic, room amazing and breakfast superb with river views in serene location.
I would highly recommend this b n b. The locals are extremely friendly as are the owners here.
The en suite has everything including razors, air freshener and many bath and shower products. !! Highly impressed.
Such a lovely location with top hosts, Elizebeth and Frank ... after staying in some swanky hotels previously, got to say this place tops them all. :)

Fantastic b&b. Could not fault it. Very warm welcome on arrival. Very friendly hosts whilst respecting your privacy. Spotlessly clean throughout,if you had forgotten anything it was there, from hairdryer to shower gel. Beautiful room with a view of the river, comfortable bed, fantastic full English breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning,a wonderful picturesque part of the country.

Booked this as a xmas prezzie for my partner & myself and after seeing the reviews we were both looking forward to our stay, spoke to Elizabeth on the phone before our visit & she seemed lovely & friendly..
On a positive note, the B & B on arrival was lovely & clean with beautiful views from our bedroom window of the river Greta & it's bridge, so picture postcard.
We were there for 2 nights & spent the 1st day over in Morecambe & the 2nd day visiting Grasmere & Bowness. The weather was quite good on the 2nd day and all in all we had a lovely 2 day break.
Back however to our hosts. On arrival no sign of the promised cup of tea & bicuits, just a hi & here's the key to your room, up the stairs & it's the one with river view on it, this from Elizabeth who we never saw again until our departure.
Did not see anyone when we came back at night, or when we returned from having a meal at the local pub, in fact as we came in the lounge door was slammed shut as we passed!!
The next morning we met Frank at breakfast & I felt that apart from taking our order he wasn't interested in us at all. However there was another couple having breakfast at the same time as us & we noticed that he was happy enough to spend time talking to them.
Totally at odds with all the reviews I had read previously.
When we arrived back after spending a lovely day in the lakes we saw no-one. Went to the pub for a drink & yet again no hosts when we returned to the b & b.
Just a quick word about the local pub, The Punch Bowl, staff & customers lovely & welcoming. Must visit if you stay in this part of the world!!
In fact everyone we met in the village spoke to us which was lovely.
On the last morning we got a few more words out of Frank, but maybe cos there was no-one else there.
As I came down with my bags Elizabeth suddenly appeared & greeted me like a long lost relative, asking me to please go on trip advisor & give them a good review!!!!!!
We had discussed our hosts behaviour during our visit & we could only come up with one reason for this strange behaviour, hopefully we were wrong.
Would we return, not to River Cottage , but to the area absolutely.
Woul have put the rating higher if we were not made to feel so uncomfortable during our stay.
.

Room Tip: Our room was lovely, but all other rooms seemed to be on a par with ours

I stayed her with my 13 year old daughter and her friend on 29th December. We all had a brill time and i could not fault river cottage. It was the nicest B&B i have stayed in and the breakfast was wonderful. My daughter and her friend had a great time and didnt want to leave. Elizabeth and Frank could have not have been more welcoming. The bedroom was spotless and the most comfy bed ever. Will be returning.

What a lovely Bed & Breakfast, one of the best I have stayed in. The owners are super welcoming and friendly, cuppa tea on arrival very nice. Great value for money, rooms, clean and tastefully decorated, bathroom spotless with everything you need. Amazing views from our bedroom window of the river and the bridge just outside. Breakfast was outstanding, definitely staying here again perfect peaceful get away.

Room Tip: We stayed in River View which was lovely but according to the other guests all the rooms have an ama...

... we have ever stayed in - and the warmest welcome and superb breakfast. Walk up to the Punch Bowl for our evening meal was the icing on the cake! After a long day in the car perfect place to unwind - could have happily stayed more than one night. Ideal stop off away from the crowded Lakes area, but still very accessible and rates such good value. .

Room Tip: All rooms quiet but River Room looks out over the River which was lovely.
