“Exploring misty woods”

I loved visiting misty woods resort, I think it is a less known resort which is extremely affordable and gives everything under one roof. Great food, great stay , scenic pleaseure to eyes as it is in the forest... , waterfalls within resort, pepper and orange plantation in the resort., historic place with Nalaknad palace just 5 minutes away from the resort. There are jhoolas tied to the trees that gives a natural atmosphere.. People are exteremely courteous... My kids, husband have thoroughly enjoyed the stay.. Lot of site seeing places around within just 2 hours drive( Madikeri) , however I prefer staying in the resort which is comprehensive by itself...My votes are for this resort more than the popular Orange county because this is extremely affordable with the same quality of service, lodging facilities, ambience of the cottages. Bunk beds were also available for the Kids.. Overall it was a memorable trip...

The place was excellent to be out of crowd. Place is on a narrow and Hilly road , but once you are there you can fill the difference. The place is also well connected to all the main tourist place around.

Hospitality of the staffs & the manager has been awesome. Quality of food was not too spicy but delicious.

Only I felt they could have helped us showing the nearby walk around places.

If you really want to be out of city Misty wood is a right place.

Advice :
Plan to reach the pace before evening else may be dificult to find the place as some time you do not get any cellphone network to call some one or check your GPS.

In rainy season be carefull of blood shucking insect ( called Lichi) . It's not harmfull but really make you bleed.

Misty Woods is a very calm, scenic and peaceful place to unwind. The drive approaching the destination, the splendid country side all adds up to the feeling of a good getaway from city. The weather in Coorg during Oct month is excellent and often has mild showers adding to its beauty.

The staff at the resort are vey friendly and helpful. The hospitality is wonderful. The manager, Daniel is very approachable. The chef showed a keen interest in knowing our tastes and preferences. We enjoyed the food at the restaurant. The food was prepared as per our taste and also included some items of our choice.

The mild showers, the dense mist, the walk through the plantation and the waterfalls within the resort were exiting and brought us close to the nature.

Also we happened to meet Mr. John the property owner of Misty Woods who shared his views and plans that is soon to come up in Misty woods. We also happened to see the new additions like the cottages, lake, swimming pool, etc that are in the process of being added to this place.

We strongly feel the need for recreations for kids and also for adults needs to be given a thought. Also the approach to the cottages from the reception is steep and we think it can be a major challenge especially for the elderly. However, we think this place does provide Jeep rides on request..

All in all, would like to conclude that the stay was a wonderful experience to us and would certainly will give Misty Woods a Thumbs Up !!!

The stay at misty woods was excellent. The courtesy of the staff was very good, they made us feel at home. The cottages are very neat and located at a far distance from the adjacent cottages. The terrain is hilly inside the resort which may be a cause of concern for elders but we enjoyed it.The approach road to the resort needs to be levelled.

MISTY WOODS…….

Misty Woods is nestled in a part of in the mountain ranges called 'Karadi moole', built in an estate that sprawls over 100 acres of land. More over this untouched nature is on the foot of the highest peak in Coorg ‘Thadiyante Mol’ and barely a step away from ‘Nalknad Palace’, built in 1794, famous for its painting and carvings and also with many waterfalls within the estate.

Travel from Bangalore,

Hardly 6 hours journey from Bangalore, we took a night Volvo bus which started from bangalore at 12pm and reached Virajpet at 05:30am,, from virajpet u can take a taxi which will take 45 mins to reach the resort. Taxi guys will demand for 700 rupees but u can bargain and bring down it to 600 to 550.

Food and service

When we travel out of our home main things which is required to make our travel pleasant and memorable is food and the stay so if u select Misty woods for your stay you are surely not to worry about this. The food and the service from the staff are fantastic.

Place to visit around the resort

When I reached the resort I was feeling sad because the resort is very far from the city Mercara but after seeing the places around the resort I felt that I have chosen right place to stay because you have better places to visit around the resort.

1. Nalknad Palace’ – Just 2 mins walk from the resort

At a bend on the way up from Kakkabe, an indication to the left guided me to an open grass field where from amidst the tall trees and shrubs the palace came into view abruptly. It is a very wide two-storied structure with white walls and tiled roofs. The main entrance with tall, well-carved wooden doors leads to a sprawling courtyard with the paths lined by flowering plants. As Anand, the caretaker here offered to take me around more facts come to the fore. The small enclosure at the immediate right of the pathway is the Kalyanamantapa, a brick and mortar structure with sculpted decorative figures on its top corners. We walked ahead to the steps leading to the main hall but not before appreciating the finely carved pair of elephants flanking the steps.

The rooms at the extreme left were once the kitchen and an armoury. The stairs took us to the wide and spacious upper floor. As we entered the king’s room on the left, Anand drew my attention to the ceiling designs. The uniform box-like depressions with brown red flowery ornamentations suggested the king was a connoisseur of art. He was none other than the valiant Doddaveerarajendra who was instrumental in winning back the kingdom from the clutches of Tipu.

Most of the painting are spoiled by some idiots so you can enjoy very few paintings.

2. Tadiandamol peak (Highest peak in coorg @ 1750 Mts (5729 Ft)

Tadiandamol (5,729 ft) is the highest peak of the district and is situated near Misty Woods Resort which is 40 kms from Madikeri. The peak is not altogether inaccessible; two-thirds of it can be negotiated on a jeep. The topmost position is rather difficult to ascent. But if one preserves and climbs to the top, their exertions are amply rewarded and there from the giddy top of the peak they can look all around towards west and east and feast their eyes on the majestic grandeurs of the slopes.

3. Waterfalls

There are three waterfalls around the resort and all these are much better than the Abbey falls at coorg….. Once you get into the waterfalls you don’t feel to come back from the falls. You can enjoy a lot over here as there is no crowd and it’s not spoiled by the tourists…….

ONLY ONE THING U NEED TO WOORY HERE IS ABOUT LEECHES WHICH WILL BE WAITING TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD. I TRIED MY BEST TO AVOID DONATING BLOOD TO THEM BUT AT LAST ONE LEECH TASTED MY BLOOD………..

YOU CAN APPLY SALT OR GARLIC PASTE TO YOUR LEGS AND KEEP THEM AWAY FROM YOU.

Before booking the resort I read many bad reviews about the resort but after staying there I can say that most them are not true and may be posted by some competitors or some guests who did not get some discounts from the resort Manager.

Trekkers and the people who are looking for relaxation don’t miss this place.
