Great italian pizza. Made by italians not like some other restaurants were the chef is algerian the owner malasian the manager nepalees and none have ever set foot in italy. Do you want good italian pizza or just a nice seat in a nice looking place to eat below average interpretation of Italian food? I am italian and I eat at mario's.

Intimate cafe, goes head to head price wise with PizzaExpress though, and a bit pricey on wine too.
Excellent pizzas, and will return, but reckon on £25 pp.

Note they do have a licence and do take plastic, (to correct earlier reviews)

Fifth visit and still very pleased. Food simple, and in our opinion, authentic. Still a very reasonably priced restaurant with fresh-tasting food. Will be back!

I was drawn to this restaurant with high expectations due to the many positive reviews. I do not wish to write anything detrimental to the owners. But all I will say is that I think the many who have given this place such high ratings have never eaten in an Italian restaurant worthy of 5 stars such as River Café and the likes. To me it does not offer the simple, fresh, authentic or wholesome ingredients of a true Italian Restaurant.

Dear Mr.BOB,
we are sorry if we didn't meet your "HIGH EXPECTATIONS" of an AUTHENTIC ITALIAN PIZZERIA.
We don't know what you had to eat that day, but i can assure you that all our ingredients are bought from an italian company"ALIVINI", which deals with FRESH and AUTHENTIC ITALIAN PRODUCE.
WE don't compare ourselves with River Cafe', which by the way was not run by Italian, or any other establishment.
We are simply "MARIO'S PIZZERIA" and we are known by all our Fantastic Customers, of the FRESHNESS and AUTHENTICITY" of all our dishes.
So, Mr. BOB if you don't know the ITALIAN WAY to eat, we suggest to grab a Kebab(Turkish) or a Dolmio Pasta Sauce(German) on your way home.
BUON APPETITO
MARIO'S PIZZERIA

We went to Mario's for the first time last night to celebrate our son's 13th birthday. It was early at around 6pm so we were the only customers in the small restaurant. We had pre-booked and it was explained whilst booking that they now have their license so alcohol is now served, but at the moment they couldn't take cards.

The server was extremely friendly and helpful, going through the specials with patience. Being midweek we weren't going for a full dining experience, so we chose to share bread and olive oil to start and kept to soft drinks.

The bread was amazing. We were told with pride that it was made fresh at the restaurant earlier on. Soft, with a smattering of poppy seeds, it was accompanied nicely with incredibly nutty extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

The kids chose a mozzarella, tomato and pepperoni but both skipped the Gorgonzola. Whilst waiting we engaged in conversation with the server about Italy and Italian food, when he took the kids out to the kitchen to show them how they make the pizza and the oven it's cooked in.

My wife and I both chose the fresh squid ink ravioli with seafood and ricotta filling, with a "pink" sauce from the specials board. It was fantastic. The ravioli were large and handmade, the filling had that great sea taste. Sauce was a light tomato base. Although it was five ravioli they were big enough to be filling and with a shared side salad was a satisfying meal.

The bill came to £58 which was a little more than I expected since no alcohol was consumed but on a par with somewhere like Pizza Express if only slightly more.

Overall an excellent, friendly restaurant. Real and fresh ingredients combined into great dishes.

Thank Grant B
