Found this place as a last resort since most of the places were running full during the peak season. But after the stay dint regret the choice. It's a bungalow with 4 rooms situated in a vast estate. The owner Raghu Uthappa was very amiable and helpful with the booking and directions. The rooms and the sitout are tastefully decorated with antique furniture and articles. Rooms were very clean and most importantly the bathroom was hygenic. We had requested vegetarian food. Was pretty decent stuff. Ofcourse another attraction for me and my wife was the labrador Polo who was a friendly guy.
Only shortcoming in our room was a little lack of privacy. This was directly facing the common area and the entrance and the curtains were very thin. The thickness of the curtains needs to be increased. If you have a choice avoid this room and choose a different room.
Overall was a good stay and would not mind staying there again.
Thank you Raghu and your staff for the hospitality.

We spent our our time at this humble abode from the 30th Dec '12 till 1st Jan '13. Yes, it was a wonderful new year break at Berry Lane. Mr. Uthappa, as read in the past reviews was very hospitable and made us feel at home. I guess word can not explain the hospitality and the place. The place is great and is meant for anyone who would like to spend time in quite. Ideal for families and peace lovers, I will sure revisit this place again and stay for a longer time. They also have a restaurant that serves mouth watering food close to Virajpet (Flavous of India). The restaurant is on a hill top and has breath taking view as well. All you solo souls, who like to spend time in tranqullity, read, write, bring out the creative person in you, i recommend this place to you as well. Mirrors and Mirrors everywhere, and each piece of art is unique and will ensure that you spend time gazing at the work that has been put up. Truly, if i were the owner of the place I would have thought 100 time before letting anyone stay, as this place would make me very possessive the way it is built, maintained etc..

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, but as Mr Uthappa says the room that is attached to his house is the best...

We stayed with 2 other friends and their family. I found this place on search and read couple of reviews. The location and house pics fascinated us and we decided to stay at this place. I spoke to the owner Mr Raghu Utappa and found him very helpful and courteous. We had a great experience there when we reached. One of our friend was strict Jain family and the staff there was ready to make the food of their taste and choice. They made us very comfortable and we enjoyed the stay there.

The food was good and so was the whole experience. Everyone is very friendly and prompt in their service. The kids also enjoyed as there was a very cute and friendly dog (lab) and they had a good time playing badminton, cricket etc and roaming in the estate. Since its a homestay, people who are looking for activities must carry their own stuff. They place is very well maintained and we had good time.

There are 3 rooms which are maintained very well and neat but need more decoration in line with the entire house.

Room Tip: U can make a choice of deluxe room if you are one single family.

I stayed at Coorg Berry Lane with 5 friends recently and I must say that we had pleasurable experience. Home stay is located in a very nice location in a coffee state.
I found this home stay online, Owner Mr. Raghu Uthapa is very nice person, He makes the efforts to make your vacations perfect. He got a nice collection of antique furniture and lot of other things which might attract you. I won't say it's the best place for the people looking for adventure but certainly it's the best place if you are looking for a nice and cozy place to spend some leisure time with nature.
Also It is located on a central location from many place you can visit. Dubare Elephant Reserve, Tibetan Golden Temple, Raja Seat, Talcavery etc.

Also I can not forget to mention, they cook very nice breakfast which anyone will love.
In case If you are pet lover they have a adorable Lab, you can play with!

A Suggestion: Addition of a bone fire will make night lot more enjoyable there!

We (I and my family) stayed at Berry Lane for 3 days last week. We were referred to Berry Lane by a friend who enjoyed staying here 2 yrs back. This is perhaps the best homestay experience for us. The rooms are spacious with good flooring. So are the bathrooms - good fittings, with geyser etc. There is a UPS backup and also a generator. So we did not have to bother about the power cuts. Food was fantastic - though Coorgis are known for their non-veg cuisine, the cook churned out some very tasty veg food - both north and south Indian. So we decided to stay back the last day in Berry Lane ( instead of going out for sight seeing) and just chill out and enjoy the food. Breakfast is complimentary but the price of lunch/dinner at Rs.150 per head is a bit too steep. But there is no restaurant anywhere in the vicinity...so can't complain.

We took a stroll ( trek) into the coffee estate and enjoyed the greenery and sounds of birds. There is a spacious verandah were we spent a considerable amount of time relaxing, reading and enjoying the scenery all around. The Uthappas have a fantastic collection of antique furniture and beautiful decorations and potted plants all over. Mrs.Uthappa's creativity in decorating the house and her gardening skills are just fantastic. Mr.Uthappa took care of everything for us. Right from the time we contacted him over phone for booking to arranging a taxi and our food - everything went smooth.Small issues like the T.V cable problem and power cuts were immediately attended to. The staff at Berry Lane were also cheerful and helpful. We fell in love with the plantains, figs and papayas grown here - we gorged down as much as we could and the Uthappas were gracious to pack us more fruits to take back home. Although Coorg was hot during the day, evenings and early mornings were pleasant - esp. the mornings were misty after the previous evening rain.

The only negative is that this is away from most tourist attractions - Talacauvery is 2 hours away; Madikeri is more than an hour's drive - so is Kushal Nagar. Roads are not good in many stretches. So, proper planning is needed for sight seeing trips. Better to start early in the day. We missed out a few places in Madikeri because the taxi driver did not advise us properly about the time it takes to go from one place to the other and by 5 pm it started raining.

We certainly wish to go back to Berry Lane whenever the next opportunity arises. In short, we enjoyed staying here more than touring around Coorg !!!

Rajesh, Chennai

Room Tip: Deluxe room has many antique furniture. There is a room on top of the garage with a good view.

My husband and I decided to spend the weekend at Coorg at the last minute. We found Berrylane online and Mr. Raghu Uthappa was a gem - right from the moment we called him to ask for a booking. We loved the place from the moment we saw the front door. The house has been done up beautifully with antiques which Mrs. Uthappa has collected from all over the country. We were further delighted to be upgraded to the heritage room which is gorgeous with a small seating enclave inside the room. When uncle learnt that I am a food enthusiast he went all out to make us some absolutely yummy coorgi food - puttu, Coorg chicken curry, Pandi curry, rice roti's - everything we ate was delicious and a completely new food experience.

At the homestay you can take a quick walk around the plantation which grows coffee and numerous fruits. Mr. Uthappa can also take you for a round of golf if you are a golf enthusiast. besides that - there is not much to do on the property other than read, lounge around and relax (this wasnt much of a problem for us since thats exactly what we wanted to do).

This is an ideal place if you want a quiet place to stay while you enjoy the serene environs of Coorg. Mrs. and Mr. Uthappa make wonderful hosts and we feel terrible that we couldnt write this review earlier.

PS - while at coorg do go in to eat at the East End Hotel - we really enjoyed the food there.

Room Tip: Pick the heritage room - its the best in the homestay.
