This trail is 459km (almost 300 miles) long, following the river Mur from it's very beginning as little mountain creek in Salzburg's Lungau district, all the way to southern Styria, where it leaves Austria as one of the 5 largest rivers of Austria. You can ride small sections, or the whole thing - up to you.
I like riding along the river, as it is on average downhill; even though there are parts, of course, where you have to work your way up some incline.
I followed it only the first couple dozen of kms, from St. Michael, via Tamsweg, to Scheifling.
The trail follows farm-roads, side-roads, and bike/pedestrian/equistarian only paths close to the river Mur. It allows you to see the valley from a totally different perspective than when traveling by car.
There are many restaurants, pensionen (family-owne/operated small hotels) and Zimmer Frei (BnB) accomdations along the way. Also, there are many spots, where you can stop and rest for a while, enjoy a picknick, or maybe even take a quick dip in the very cold water to cool off...
