great food... I don't know what others were complaining about... but let me give you a tip... don't expect much from a hamburger, but anywhere in the states.... we had the seafood soup and an order of French fries :). helped kick the cold I was getting real quick. the staff was kind and helpfull. the prices could not be beat! they are not open for dinner so catch them while you are on the road during the day. :)

Burgers was awful, hard pressed meat and super dry. Seafood soup, lacked seasoning, it appears as if they just threw seafood in a pot of water. They are not putting their heart in the food. I had to add salt pepper, lemon to make it semi good.

Wow, this place was just delicious. The shrimp are as big as your fist and the ajillo is just delicious. I could drink it by the bowlful.

Yeah, the prices are typical Panamanian (aka, cheap) but the food is moderately priced (we paid $14 each for A LOT of food) and the portions are huge.

Recommend:
patacones (or plantanos, fried ripened plantains)
langostinos ajillos (jumbo shrimp with garlic sauce)
empanadas
coconut rice

La Torre (The Tower) doesn't look like much, driving by. And, if you blink or look to the left, you might miss it. But, this is Portobelo's best restaurant, hands down.

Let's start with the food. It's typical, Caribbean Panamanian. On the menu you'll find corvina (fresh sea bass), ceviche, shrimp, octopus, pork and empanadas. But, the taste is anything but typical.

Take the empanadas. I am not a fan of dried, tasteless pie dough filled with a bland tablespoon mash of pork. These empanadas are to die for! The shell is flaky and warm. The inside is packed with seasoned, flavorful, shredded pork. Needless to say, when our group ordered one of these appetiser plates, there was nothing but porcelain in seconds.

Other treats: Sopa de Mariscos (seafood soup) - a mildly spicy Bouillabaisse of shrimp, octopus, squid and corvina. I really enjoyed this! And, be sure to get a side of coconut rice.

Filete de Corvina Ajillo (sea bass in a garlic sauce) - A fish like corvina is easily overpowered by too much garlic. This creamy sauce is just right -- strong enough to please a garlic lover and still allowing the flavor of the fish to come through.

Arroz con Coco (coconut rice) - You'll find it in almost any restaurant on the Caribbean from Bocas to Nombre de Dios. This is the best I've ever tasted.

Limonada de Frambuesa (raspberry lemonade) - made with raspberries and lime. Wow! A great wake-up call for your tongue!

They also serve a complete breakfast for $4.50.

Panamanian restaurants aren't known for service. In most small, roadside restaurants, you could place your order and go change the oil in your car before it will be ready. Here, the service is prompt. And, the waitress follows up, too, checking in from time to time to see if you need another Cervesa Panama or another plate of empanadas.

You'll find La Torre on the road to Portobelo. It will be on the right, as you're driving toward the town, about a kilometer or two before you get to the town and almost exactly a kilometer from Scubapanama and Los Cañones -- the second best restaurant in Portobelo. If you're coming for dinner, keep in mind that most of the restaurants in and around Portobelo close by 7:00 pm.
