Have stayed at this inn for a number of years on business and due to retirement wont be able to go any longer so will really miss it.Its run by a very nice family always get a good welcome. The food is excellent particulary the sizziling steaks which were my favourite and very good value.Rooms are comfortable.Famous for where Cherry Brandy was first discovered. .

Having just arranged and catered our own wedding we wanted to get away for a weekend and chill. I mentioned on the phone when booking that it was a sneaky honeymoon - when we arrived we were shown a truly lovely room with four poster bed - even champagne glasses were ready! Downstairs the witty landlord and locals were great - joining in the newly wed chat and making us feel welcome. Dinner was incredible - risking steak in a world of pubs that ruin perfectly good beef - it was simply THE BEST STEAK I have ever been served! The family work non stop to make this a uniquely wonderful place - breakfast was just spot on. The casual atmosphere exactly what we wanted. Don't go here if you want to ponce about being arrogant. Do go here if you want to enjoy the historic welcome of a proper English country Inn. Leave the car and use the cheap, regular buses to Canterbury, Margate or Broadstairs!

My husband and I booked a 2 night stay for the 24th and 25th of August. When we arrived we were greeted by Clive the owner and shown straight to our room. We were told about meal times, evening and breakfast and all relevant information pertaining to our stay. The room was very well equipped and very clean and the bed was very comfortable, just what you would expect from a 4 star accommodation. We spent the first afternoon and evening in the Inn as the weather was very wet! We were made to feel very comfortable and welcomed by Penelope ( Clive's wife ) and by the locals and other residence. In the evening we dined in the restaurant at the Inn and could not find a thing to fault the food. We both had steak which was served on a sizzling griddle and cooked exactly to our preference. Served with a choice of potatoes, we opted for the chips and vegetables which were both ample and very tasty. Portions were very generous, I couldn't finish mine but I did have a starter and then went on to have a dessert! All 3 courses were superb and the drinks were very good too. In the morning we were treated to a lovely cooked breakfast, good quality sausage and bacon and the eggs tasted like fresh farm eggs. You could also have cereal, tea, coffee, toast and fresh juices. The table next to us opted for all of the breakfast choices which was all included in the price! We would definitely recommend the Cherry brandy house and are definitely going back again, next time with the kids! There were families booked in at the same time as us and everyone seemed to be having a lovely time. Erene & Jon, Cranham, Essex

Room Tip: We had room 9 ( a double ) which was great, spacious and clean and was located above the residence r...

We stayed one night at the Crown. The room was large, very clean and comfortable - and quiet. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but the breakfast - while not outstanding - was good and plentiful. All in all this was an excellent find. We'll certainly stay again if we're in the area and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

Easy parking, a warm welcome, a comfortable and nicely furnished room, plus a good selection of pub favourites on the menu. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. Warmly recommended and great value too. Sadly, no time to try the cherry brandy.

We had stayed in the Isle of Wight with family and were travelling to France on our own for a further weeks rest. We found this place by chance and were really glad we did. After having a week of eating out in similar establishments on the Isle of Wight and being ripped off for below average food. It was a real pleasure to stay here if only for one night. The dinner was excellent not overpriced as we had become used to, likewise the breakfast. The accomodation was clean and comfortable. The home made cherry brandy is fantastic. The building is full of character and I would include the staff and proprietor in that. We travel to France and often stay in this area, (its no more than 30 minutes to Dover) but in future I cant envisage us staying anywhere else what a fantastic find.

We stayed for 2 nights with some friends who were conveniently placed in the room next door.
Pleasant room with a large bed (which made it a little tight on space) but well equipped. En suite bathroom which was very compact - but with a powerful shower over the bath (but a very small basin!) Only 1 set of towels apparent - but there was a further set in the wardrobe. Unfortunately there was something outside which "whirred" all night which was a little disturbing.
Very good breakfast included with fruit juice, cereals and a cooked breakfast with plenty of toast etc (alhough unfortunately there was rather a greasy kitchen smell and the ventilation needs sorting out)

Landlord was extremely helpful, with a droll sense of humour!

We would certainly recommend this to others - and agree it certainly represents value for money
