“Christmas dinner”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

We decided to treat ourselves this year and it really was a treat @ £80 per head. However we felt it was worth every penny. The price included canapés and champagne on arrival and then plenty of courses. The food was delicious and the service was brilliantly paced. We were there for four hours. Only slight disappointment was that we were stuck in one corner away from the Christmas cheer and all felt a little cold. Having said that we all felt we would like to go back next year but that we would book early and check the location in the restaurant

“60th Birthday for 10 people”
Reviewed December 14, 2013 via mobile

A fantastic atmosphere in the restaurant which is set in a beautiful village square. The Parfait was excellent as was the Gressingham duck. Prices were reflective of the quality but portions were more than adequate. The only down side was how tight for space we would have been if the other party member had been able to make it as we were 'friendly' with just the 10 of us. Would add it to the repeat list of restaurants for special occasions.

“Excellent local restaurant! Beautiful food in a cosy and warm setting.”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

We went today (Saturday at 4.30pm) and our expectations were met and at times exceeded. I went for the lunch set menu (valid until 5pm) and it's good value. I had mussels as starters and they were the best I have ever had! Full of flavour and fresh! My husband had the beef kofta which was also great. The sauce that came with it was so tasty and unexpected. For our mains, we had the salmon and the rib eye steak. Salmon was perfectly cooked, juicy and tasty! Served hot on a bed of new potatoes, spinach and cabbage! My kids enjoyed that too! And the steak was cooked as requested! A point! Not always a given so my husband was pleased and then the taste... So good! And I strongly recommend the peppercorn sauce. For desert we shared the chocolate and pistachio marquise. We shared as were quite full from our delicious starters and mains. Oh and if you go before Christmas, make sure you try the mulled wine.. Served hot and the spices intensify as you drink it.
All through the dinner, the staff were polite, pleasant and attentive but not overly so we could still have a very cosy family dinner. Full marks for the staff too!
The decor is classy yet not pretentious! The open fires are lovely and warm. And as a mummy, I was happy with how well they catered for the kids. My daughter had a kids portion of the fish goujons. We will definitely go again!

“Nice local restaurant with good intentions”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

A family dinner for my husband's birthday with our 2 sons (17 & 29) so 3 hungry men with good appetites! Our first evening visit & we thought it was very nice, points awarded in different areas. I had enjoyed the excellent fixed price 2 course lunch last month. The bar area has a good feel but the position of our table with 3 males, was somewhat cramped, restrictive & we felt a bit lacking in atmosphere. The personal service was excellent, couldn't fault the staff. Excellent food & wine menu, we enjoyed a juicy Malbec. Small but special mention, to super breads & olives - not a given nowadays. We had a rather too long wait before the mains, & the 3 venison meals when served were only just warm - as I love my food hot, I sent mine back which was dealt with expediently, but the 2 guys were so hungry it was gone in a flash with smiles - good flavours. We understood the meat needed to be rested, but the venison was definitely only just warm. Excellent well cooked vegetables. Good desserts too, with rich homemade ice creams. We felt the bill was reasonable & the staff tip well deserved. Bottom line - would we return - yes, but in a while.
